B) Basingiton various ancient writers accounts,    OG解释：the pronoun it does not have a clear reference

agent for the Resistance.                                                              

正确答案 ：D) Long before itwas fashionable to be an expatriate, Josephine Baker made Paris her home  

OG25里 it不可能指代scholars，scholars的宾语a sketchy picture从逻辑和语法上也是it的指代对象
而OG52里，同样句首提到it，往后看JB的宾语Paris，  即it的指代对象  
先不管其他的语法错误，我的疑惑是， OG25为什么认为it指代不清， 而OG52就不觉得it指代不清呢？
希望大家能回答我的困惑，谢谢！

it 不会造成 指代a sketchy picture 或者 anall-female cult  的歧义么

先不管其他的语法错误，我的疑惑是， OG25为什么认为it指代不清， 而OG52就不觉得it指代不清呢？

好像是这样的：Basingiton various ancient writers accounts，scholarshave painted
你看 ，很明显basing的逻辑主语和语法主语都是scholarshave，因此，it 优先指代主句主语 scholarshave，那就变成了S basing S,逻辑错误。因此很明显，it按顺序指代宾语，这样出现了指代歧义~

我觉得不对啊，你看OG52那句，JB那个人同样是在句首啊，和OG25那道的位置一样的吖，而且，basing的逻辑主语是scholars
不一定后面的It也是scholars啊.
OG25里虽然scholars是主语优先指代，但是it指代的是物，所以明显a sketchy的指代性就很强嘛！

可是 相对于a sketchy， cult 是修饰它的介词宾语啊  介词宾语的指代性最弱了。。

postpone infinitive subjects
Long before itwas fashionable to be an expatriate
本来应该是Long before to be an expatriate was fashionable
不定式在GMAT不能当subject，因此加个it，
Do not look for a noun antecedent for a Placeholder It.

5楼说得对阿 好巧啊 昨天我也在想楼主说得第2个it为什么对 后来我搜了好多gmat的论坛 发现一个说得挺有道理的 第2个it是做后面的不定式 to be an expatriate的形式主语 这是一种习惯用法

是的 我也是后面才明白这里it是形式宾语  不过就因为这里也不指代PARIS  总觉得这句话有点怪怪的哈哈
