Not only did the systematic clearing of forests in the United States create farmland (especially in the Northeast) and gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but it also caused erosion and very quickly deforested whole regions.
A. Not only did the systematic clearing of forests in the United States create farmland (especially in the Northeast) and gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but it also
B. Not only did the systematic clearing of forests in the United States create farmland (especially in the Northeast), which gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but also
C. The systematic clearing of forests in the United States, creating farmland (especially in the Northeast) and giving consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but also
D. The systematic clearing of forests in the United States created farmland (especially in the Northeast) and gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but it also
E. The systematic clearing of forests in the United States not only created farmland (especially in the Northeast), giving consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but it [D]B
P633:Not only does he compose music, but he also play./ Not only does he have to type out the answer on a computer, but he also gets the computer to translate it into sounds.
1005:She was not only compelled to stay at home, but she was also forbidden to see her friends
159. In 1978 a national study found that not only had many contractors licensed by a self-policing private guild failed to pass qualifying exams, but they had also falsified their references
同意选D 请问如果在not only...but also倒装中
即
not only. do Subject verb, but also 后面要不要再加主语
2. 本题的是but的转折含义,不是not only , but also的并列含义.
3. 关于not only, but also的倒装句, 英语语法大全上的例句是:
Not only did they break into his office and steal his books, but they also tore up his manucripts.but可以省略:
Not only did he protest, he also refused to pay his taxes.

not only.... but also...
not only引导的部分是主句,从句是but also后面的句子。
另外 not only 后面可以只有but或只有also甚至什么都没有。
感谢rhod/stellate
另外 是不是在not only...but also
只能用but also/ but 不能单独用also啊
辛苦MM 能否麻烦找个ETS例子 感觉见到的大全中的 not only ...but also/ but
另外 在不表示并列时 not just...but also 这里的but also 又作如何理解呢

then, what's wrong with answer B?
farmland也照样可以 gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture呀?
1.原句中,gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture是系统性的clearing森林发出的,而不是farmland;
not only did sth do(did??)...but also did it..
not only did sth do...it but also错的吧??
Note: Guan, Weidong told me that ETS made the question wrong. The answer should be
"A" on the condition of "it but also".
I think it should be A.
In my version of GWD, there is a sentence below the question
Note: Guan, Weidong told me that ETS made the question wrong. The answer should be
“A” on the condition of “it but also”
Meanwhile, XDJM have shown the examples which indicate that we can use "but it also"
At last, according to the other choice, I think that the meaning of the sentence is that the cleaning of forests have two consequences:
"created farmland "and "gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture"
we can use the left land as farmland and use the woods to make houses and furniture

首先not only……but also和not only ……but都是正确的表达方法;其次,e中giving做主句的结果说The systematic clearing of forests in the United States not only created farmland (especially in the Northeast)这件事情提供了房子和家具也挺合理的;
Not only did the systematic clearing of forests in the United States create farmland (especially in the Northeast) and gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but it also caused erosion and very quickly deforested whole regions.
not only... but also... 第一句说create farmland and gave ..., 这个是clearing of forests 的作用。 第二句说什么, caused erosion and deforested ...
因此用not only, but also 的选项都不对。
而D选项中的 but it also 仅仅是表示转折关系, 是正确的。
A选项not only, but also的确没有用错,但gave错了,应该是give才对
B选项but also错了,应该是but it also
我觉得D选项没什么不对啊,这里but also只是表示转折没有用到not only结构,且逻辑关系准确是clearing of forests give consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture,而不是farmland.
可是只有but also,前面没有not only,这样也对么.OG里面找不到有这样只有单独的but also的例子。
稳妥地方法,我觉得还是先考虑not only...but also的选项为主。
大家为什么总觉得but it also一定就是not only..but also呢?
D.两点可疑,1. the systematic clearing 后的create farmland与give consumers不存在并列关系, 后者是对前者的解释和补充;but it also,这个it我们意思理解是指的the systematic clearing,但是形式是否可能引起模糊,认为指的是前面最接近的单数名词 furniture?
SUPPORT d

support A
不觉得gave的时态错啊,not only did。。。
