Government officials should rely on their own judgment rather than unquestioningly carry out the will of the people they serve.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position.
I concede to it that when government officials make decision they should rely on their own judgments. However,it sometimes seems better to take the will of the people they serve into consideration and it may sidestep many mistakes.
Admittedly, those government officials are responsible to make decisions and they are always the most brilliant among the people. It may be not hard to understand that those government officials are always selected from many excellent people and they have many advantages when making decision based on their own judgment. They usually have acute sense , long view and they think at the point of the whole nation which is the most important. In the age of the Great Depression, peoplelost jobs and became homeless. Children had to bear starvation and their parents could not afford their educations. Even lots of people commit suicide. Then ,one of the most brilliant presidents in history Roosevelt stood out.His acute sense and firm executive made him bring out the New Deal. This outstanding policy from his own judgment was made at the point of the U.S. and it finally rescue the whole nation.
In addition, people always think questions on their own position and for their own interest,it is hard to follow their will. And different often have different will which make the will of the people government officials serve varied. For example,in the Civil War,Lincoln had to make a decision whether to emancipate those slaves. Some people who were full of the notion of equity might think it was necessary to set them free. In contrast, those slave owners based on their own interest strongly objected to that .If Lincoln followed the will of his people, which side would he follow? So hard to choose. And finally ,the outstanding president choose to set free the slaves on behalf of the whole nation and the victory of the North. Lincoln's decision was relatively disinterested and was just for the better future of the country. Seeing from this ,we may say it is important for those officials to make decisions on their own judgments.
However, sometimes if those officials don't take the will of their people into consideration, they may make mistakes and do harm to the country or its people. The best example is the Cultural Revolution of China. It was raised by chairman Mao. When he made decision ,he just completely based on his own judgment and ignored the will of the people then . People wanted to have a stable society and increasing economic, while the Cultural Revolution finally turned out that it hindered the economic development and made the society into tumult. And this told us the will of the people officials serve is still important when making policy or decisions.
In sum, government officials always have better judgment on problems than ordinary people for their acute sense and all-round thought and most time they are right. However, they should still take the will of its people into consideration and the combination of the both may create a better decision or policy which will benefit the whole nation.
