Q16:
While digging in the Egyptian desert, huge fossil bones have been found by paleontologists, which appears to have been the second most massive dinosaur that ever lived.
A. huge fossil bones have been found by paleontologists, which appears to have been
B. huge fossil bones have been found by paleontologists, which appear to be from
C. it appears that paleontologists have found huge fossil bones that are from
D. paleontologists have found huge fossil bones from what appears to be
E. paleontologists have found huge fossil bones, which are from what appear to be
What应该与second most massive dinosaur, 谓语appear对应单数形式。
E: which are from what appear to be is the tense of verb right?
如果指的是孔龙,那么'from what apppears to be the second most massive dinosaur"的意思不就变成了恐龙看起来象恐龙了吗?

I think the answer is E.
1. In D, from clause has ambiguiy. We do not know it 修饰 found or 作定语修饰 bones.
or
About we should use "appears" or "appear". I only remember grammer book said if 主系表结构, the verb tense follows 表语单复数.
Any NN? help!
如果指的是孔龙,那么'from what apppears to be the second most massive dinosaur"的意思不就变成了恐龙看起来象恐龙了吗?
I disagree.
Give U an example:What is your name?
According to ur opinion, the example may be grammatically wrong.
D. paleontologists have found huge fossil bones from what appears to be
from 有前后都可修饰之嫌,是bones from what appears to...
还是 from what apperas to...
from the second most massive dinosaur 只有一个意思,意思为“从恐龙里发现了化石”,而不管from the second most massive dinosaur 是修饰整个句子,还是修饰bones。
直觉地感觉D的from是修饰have found的,find sth. from多顺啊,而且意思也没错
E的appear应该加s,而且非限定性定从也不对,不是所有的huge fossil bones都是from what appears to be ... 的
感觉选D
what=the thing that吧,记得老师讲过,这句话就成了found huge fossil bones from the thing that appears to……
俺也感觉from是修饰found的,found sth from……
from which 可以理解成 which...from的提前。
ETS明显把原文中的of改成了from,看来要不是e中的appear没有s,D的from真会有歧义
原文:

Digging at an oasis in the Egyptian desert, paleontologists have found huge fossil bones of what they say appears to have been the second most massive dinosaur that ever lived.

Digging at an oasis in the Egyptian desert, paleontologists have found huge fossil bones of what they say appears to have been the second most massive dinosaur that ever lived.
the second most massive dinosaur (that ever lived) appears to be from what(what=huge fossil bones)
原句是“Digging at an oasis in the Egyptian desert, paleontologists have found huge fossil bones of what they say appears to have been the second most massive dinosaur that ever lived.”(http://www.hws.edu/alumni/alumnews/showwebclip.asp?webclipid=329)
这句可以理解为paleontologists have found *** of the second most massive dinosaur from desert
paleontologists have found huge fossil bones from what appears to be
paleontologists have found huge fossil bones, which are from what appear to be
I agree that D is better because the agreement(Should be 'appears') of E is not correct.
But I think the meaning of 'from' is not used as 'found sth from sth'.It should be "the bones are from the dinosaur.
原句是“Digging at an oasis in the Egyptian desert, paleontologists have found huge fossil bones of what they say appears to have been the second most massive dinosaur that ever lived.”(http://www.hws.edu/alumni/alumnews/showwebclip.asp?webclipid=329)

what可能是指代the Egyptian desert, the second most massive dinosaur生活的地方。
I agree that D is better because the agreement(Should be 'appears') of E is not correct.
But I think the meaning of 'from' is not used as 'found sth from sth'.It should be "the bones are from the dinosaur.

Digging at an oasis in the Egyptian desert, paleontologists have found huge fossil bones of what they say appears to have been the second most massive dinosaur that ever lived.
Q16:

A. huge fossil bones have been found by paleontologists, which appears to have been
B. huge fossil bones have been found by paleontologists, which appear to be from
C. it appears that paleontologists have found huge fossil bones that are from
D. paleontologists have found huge fossil bones from what appears to be
E. paleontologists have found huge fossil bones, which are from what appear to be

Digging at an oasis in the Egyptian desert, paleontologists have found huge fossil bones of what they say appears to have been the second most massive dinosaur that ever lived.
paleontologists
have found
huge fossil bones / from what appears to be the second most massive dinosaur that ever lived /
paleontologists
have found
huge fossil bones (from what appears to be the second most massive dinosaur that ever lived )。
He found the button from the box.
He found the button, which is from the coat.
