标题: [求助]og12第12题(og13第14题)
Rising inventories, when unaccompanied
correspondingly bv increases in sales, can lead
to production cutbacks that would hamper
economic growth.
(A) when unaccompanied correspondingly by
increases in sales, can lead
(B) when not accompanied by corresponding
increases in sales, possibly leads
(C) when they were unaccompanied by
corresponding sales increases, can lead
(D) if not accompanied by correspondingly
increased sales, possibly leads
(E) if not accompanied by corresponding increases
in sales, can lead

请问B选项为什么错了??很纠结啊

vikramk1986 wrote:Hi ...can u plz explain ..why they have taken Inventories rather than taking "rising inventories" - gerund phrase - which would have been singular...and we could have used Leads instead of lead.

If rising were a gerund here, then inventories would be its direct object.
But the verb TO RISE cannot take a direct object.
We don't rise something; we RAISE something.
Hence, rising here is an ADJECTIVE modifying the subject inventories.
