Although most consumers are suspicious of such offers, Colin is desirous of purchasing the

two-for-one vacation package.

曼哈顿语法改成：Although most consumers are suspicious of such offers, Colin wants to purchase the two-for-one

vacation package.

我改成：Although most consumers suspect such offers,Colin wants to purchase the two-for-one vacation package

书里说不能改成suspect，意思有差异；

请问差别在哪里？

附上韦氏词典的解释：

Suspicious

1 : causing a feeling that something is wrong or that someone is behaving wrongly : causing suspicion

Eg: he suspicious vehicle was reported to police.

2 : having or showing a feeling that something is wrong or that someone is behaving wrongly : feeling or showing suspicion

Eg:She became suspicious of his behavior. // The dog is suspicious of strangers.

Suspect

1 a : to think that (someone) is possibly guilty of a crime or of doing something wrong

b : to think that (something) is possibly the cause of something bad — usually + of

c : to think that (a crime) has possibly been committed

2 : to think that (something, especially something bad) possibly exists, is true, will happen, etc

3 : to have feelings of doubt about (something) : to be suspicious about (something)

还是不太明白！　suspect意思3 不是有to have feelings of doubt about sth 的意思？

我感觉这个解释有点意思。。。

SUSPECT:to have an idea that sth is probably true or likely to happen, especially sth bad, but without having definite proof
有这样的想法，一些事情，特别会不好的事情，是真的或者可能发生，但是没有确切是证据
SUSPICIOUS：1·~ (of / about sb/sth) feeling that sb has done sth wrong, illegal or dishonest, without having any proof
感觉某人干了错事、违法的或者不诚实的事，但也没有证据
2·~ (of sb/sth) not willing or able to trust sb/sth
不愿或不能相信一些事或人

例子中的suspicious应该是第2个意思，而suspect没有相应意思的用法，所以不能替换。

哦，好像有点明白，但是这个差别也太小了吧？
那lack和be lacking in的区别呢？也是Manhattan里的，也不太清楚？

楼主这个确实是意思问题没错，看你如何理解出题人的意思。

出题人是想说，那位大家很怀疑这个deal（这里的怀疑，用中文讲我不知道如何表达到位，就是说人家觉得这是奸诈），但是Colin同学还是买了。所以他说只能是suspecious of..因为这个deal很fishy,很像是骗人的，如果你要把这句话加完整就是。

你理解的意思是，因为大家很怀疑这个deal(你理解的suspect是，是不是这个deal有问题），而和上面的微妙区别就是，上面人家是觉得是骗人的，人家已经对这个deal起了疑心，而你只是suspect有没有问题。

而且这个你改的suspect such offers,意思上有问题。很少有人这么说，除非说suspect such offers怎样怎样，不能光suspect这个offer,以为你要怀疑他什么呢？什么要讲清楚，就像你说，I suspect him,肯定不对，你肯定要讲清楚I suspect that he is the killer. 这样才完整，所以不能说suspect such offers,虽然在中文上可以解释。而你说的3的用法是不对的用在这里，因为3用法是关于crimes的，你的句子里明显不是crimes.

我不知道这个细微的差别，在意思上你能体会到吗？你多读几遍试看看，仔细去体会啊，不要用中文去思考哈。

不过也难为你了，你也不会知道作者想要表达的意思。

"suspect" is used most commonly in 2 ways:
1/
before some idea that you think might be true:
i suspect that she's lying about the cost.
i should have suspected how annoying this would be.

2/
(suspect PERSON + of + xxxxx):
the bruises on the baby's body caused the doctor to suspect the parents of abuse, but they were in fact caused by hemophilia.

"be suspicious of", on the other hand, means, essentially, that you don't think something is genuine. basically, it means you suspect that the thing in question is something other than what it looks like.
e.g.
i was suspicious of the authenticity of that purse. (= i think it might be fake)
i was suspicious of jane's motives when she asked me out for coffee. (= i think she might have a hidden agenda, beyond just going for coffee)

总之我感觉要单说suspect的话就要结束suspect什么吧
