Advertisers are often criticized for their unscrupulous manipulation of people’s tastes and wants. 事件: a particular publication将 image改成了以sex and violence为主，以此吸引读者
结果：Some advertisers withdrew their advertisements from the publication
结论：this must have been because they morally disapproved of publishing salacious material
所以选项C，意思是advertisers知道如下情况：他们如果继续在改变后的杂志上发布广告，将会增加sales;如果他们withdraw，sales将会减少。那么为什么还是要withdraw呢，也就是说此时advertisers已经不考虑financial方面了,而是考虑了moral方面，advertiser morally disapproved,所以他们withdraw了，因此加强了的文章的结论。

额……不知道楼主是否能够看懂
