大家好，麻烦帮我看看这个题：

Although appearing less appetizing than most of their round and red supermarket cousins, heirloom tomatoes, grown from seeds saved during the previous year – they are often green and striped, or have plenty of bumps and bruises-heirlooms are more flavorful and thus in increasing demand.

疑问1：og说D和E选项都是ungrammatical。”我不太明白，D、E的句子从语法上说貌似没错啊？

我语法不太好，大家看看对不对：
主语谓语宾语
D Grown from seeds saved during the previous year, heirloom tomatoes appear less appetizing than most of their round and red supermarket cousins
E Heirloom tomatoes, grown from seeds saved during the previous year, although they appear less appetizing than most of their round and red supermarket cousins

D选项是完整的句子，可后半句也是一个完整的句子，没有连接词，是run-on错误。
E选项划线部分已经有两个主语了。。。

两个逗号之间grown这个短语，是heirloom tomatoes的后置定语，不构成主句成分。 although引导的是状语从句。既然是从句，也就同样不构成主句成分。

因此，破折号前的主句成分只有heirloom tomatoes,这不是一个完整的句子，所以ungrammatical

两个逗号之间grown这个短语，是heirloom tomatoes的后置定语，不构成主句成分。 although引导的是状语从句。既然是从句，也就同样不构成主句成分。

首先，确定书上说了D选项是ungrammatical（P770）,它同时说因为Grown 放前面，过于强调grown而不是主语，违背原句初衷。
E选项看明白了，非常清晰的解释！

破折号可以前后连接完整的句子，也可以连接两个分句。破折号几乎是百搭，做逗号也可以，冒号也可以，分号也可以。但是从A选项来看，这句句子有明确的转折含义，破折号是当逗号用的。当你选D时，破折号是当冒号用的，冒号的意思是后半句解释说明前半句。这与本句句的句意不符。

举一个冒号的例子：you can ask him any question - he is very nice.

这贴貌似很久了，正好看到。版主我觉得E不对主要是因为出现了双主语。诚如你说的H tomatoes后面的东西都是形容H这种西红柿的所以可以全部划去，后面那破折号里面的插入成分更没用继续划去，最后句子变成H tomatoes, heirlooms are-------就等于俩主语。 D首先没有although 句子的转折含义没了使得前半句有歧义，什么歧义？就是 “grown from seeds...." 是H tomatoes " appear less...."的原因。这纯粹是捏造的因果关系。其次这句子前面是完整句，后面从heirlooms are....又是完整句子中间就以逗号，不可以，必须有一个连词否则就是run on句子。而且这俩句子间逻辑关系什么？不知道，必须由although 点出这层转折关系。以上为菜鸟的理解不知版主是否赞同~~~

既然都回帖了我再谈谈我对这道题的感想。其实可以换一种思路做题。比如在考上上这么一坨句子，猛一看看不出双主语来怎么办。可以这样子，你看见although出现在开头且大多数选项里，那先看although. Although什么意思？就是虽然。。。但是。。。这里面但是可不能用But啊亲！！我们知道那个所谓的”但是“后面是个完整的句子。往后一看：题目里有 ”heirlooms are....‘ 也就是说这句话是 “虽然（）。。。。但是H是。。。”那怎样表达最有效呢，肯定是“虽然H 怎么怎么样，但是H是。。。” 所以although 后面紧随 H tomatoes. 这么一看就剩下B了，咱看看B 我去，内部句子完整对比清晰，最关键的是你一下子就读懂了，这分明正确答案。我个人体会一般你一下子读懂的那个句子是正确答案的可能性最大。因为它简洁，清晰，对比清楚，平行，才能让你一下子读懂。那些阴山雾罩的选项往往是wordy ungrammatical

还是疑惑D选项。（我理解D缺少转折的问题）

你说D扩折号前后连接了两个完整的句子，所以要连词。

那么正确答案B选项，前后也是完整的句子啊，为什么没有连词却正确？

另外，扩折号到底是当什么使用，有说冒号，分号，逗号都可以。

如果当分号使用也可以不用连接词吧。

我凌乱了，求解救！！！

B前面不是有个although么那不就是连词么顺便说一下althugh是连词不是介词后面一定是主谓宾的

我觉得吧，这题选A是没问题的，只是OG说although后面必须是完整的clause，这点我不认同。
反例包括：
1. 你举的例子
158. Although accounting for only 5 percent of the world's population, United States citizens consume 28 percent of its nonrenewable resources, drive more than one-third of its automobiles, and use 21 times more water per capita than Europeans do.

2. OG12 Q35正确句子：
35. Along with the drop in producer prices announced yesterday, the strong retail sales figures released today seem to indicate that the economy, although growing slowly, is not nearing a recession.

我发现的规律是：在以上列举的although后面不跟complete clause但是正确的句子里
1. "although" is placed at the beginning of its "chunk" (next to comma)
2. 就算把原句的"although"去掉，所得到的句子语法上仍然是正确的。例如：
Accounting for only 5 percent of the world's population, United States citizens consume 28 percent of its nonrenewable resources, drive more than one-third of its automobiles, and use 21 times more water per capita than Europeans do.

然后OG12 Q14 (sunspots)这道题，C和D里，如果把although去掉，句子语法不正确。所以C/D里面although用法错误。

E的错误是很明显的，句子开头H tomatoes应该是一个主语，紧接着grown from seeds saved during the previous year是-ed作定语修饰H tomatoes，而然这句话还没有说完，又开始另起一句说although ……。后面的“-……-”应该是一个插入语，后面又是一句完整的话，因此划线部分也应该是一句完整的话。
在我看来，D选项在语法上没有任何错误，但是和正确选项B相比，可以发现B的语序以及对连词although的使用都使得逻辑更加清楚。

可是中间有破折号，破折号不是可以连接俩个句子吗？难道是因为B项的句子结构更好吗？

不好意思我看错了，这里有俩个破折号，是作为插入语，所以前面应该是个从句~
