D项although改变了原文意思，原文是不管heat and pressure是否移开。但although似乎在陈述一个事实仿佛heat and pressure一定会被移开。因此改变了原文的意思。 E项中的thus可以代替 this way, like that, as such, in this way. 在题中应该代替this way。

看过另一个解释觉得也蛮对的："in this way" would NOT be fine, because no "way" has been described. in fact, no adverb is present at all to be properly parallel to "in this way" (an adverbial construction); diamond is most certainly not a "way" of doing anything.
