Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It was easier for people in the past to identify which type of career or job would have a secure or successful future.

Whether it is easier or not for people in the past to identify which kind of jobs would have a stable and successful future is a magnet for controversy. In the process of human civilization, with the rapid economic development, the opportunity and satisfaction for a job is variable. From my angle of the view, I absolutely agree with the above statement. In this essay, I will highlight three main points.

In the past, as the economy slowed, the increased social stability led to fewer job opportunities for people. Furthermore, working into state-owned enterprises or major corporations was the only goal for those people. As for China, however, with the development of Chinese reform and opening-up, all kinds of enterprises have sprung up like mushrooms. Consequently, people feel completely in the dark when selecting and applying for jobs.

Since the enrollment expansion of higher education, the number of college graduates has been soaring faster than the increase of job vacancies. What’s more, more and more Chinese oversea students come back to hunt better working chances. It is sure that the competition is definitely fierce. Thus, both job seeker and staffs are under great pressure. For example, the 13th jump events of Foxconn in 2010 have shown the extreme work stress. Obviously, from the perspective of pressure, the choice of a great job opportunity is far much tough than before. So it is not surprising and understandable that it is easier for people in the past to choose a good job.

Finally, the lower pace of life and the higher happiness index made the life easier in the past. Nowadays, the pace of life is getting faster and people are carrying much greater pressure than before. Gradually time has become the most precious for some people, such as professional managers and some white collars who are always as busy as a bee. That time is money is widely believed among these people. It is very natural and essential for them to allocate their time rationally. That is to say they must spend time on something more important. As a result, their daily life also become extremely monotonous.

In conclusion, I believe that it is easier for people in the past to identify which type of career or job would have a secure or successful future. In addition, the ongoing economic globalization and rapid advancements of science and technology have generated unprecedented conditions of global economic and social development. We will find that the work is more hardship under diversification environment. Thus, we should always be prepared for a job at any moment.

In the lecture, the professor is skeptical about the hypotheses of the reading passage about the population decline of the yellow cedar. The professor argues that none of the explanations in the reading passage is adequate.

Firstly, in the reading passage, the author considers that the drop of the yellow cedar may be for the reason of the cedar bark beetle which attacks the trees and eats the wood . On the contrary, the professor says that healthy cedars are not likely to suffer from insect damage because the bark and leaves of yellow cedars are poisonous to insects.

On top of that, the reading passage describes that the reason of decline is the brown bears for destroying trees. However, the professor asserts that although bears damage trees but not the overall population. Furthermore, there were no bears on the islands where the population is still in decline.

Finally, the professor disproves the reading’s idea that climate change may cause the decrease. The professor, however, points out that more trees are dying in a warm weather of the lower elevations. So, the change of climate may not kill the trees.

In the lecture, the professor is skeptical about the hypotheses of(in) the reading passage about the population decline of the yellow cedar. The professor argues that none of the(these) explanations in the reading passage(建议去掉)isare adequate.

这段感觉有一点就是,已经死亡的cedars原来就已经sick,然后虫才导致死?虽然说了健康的树不易死亡,但是还是觉得把这说出来好)

On top of that, the reading passage describes that the reason of decline is the brown bears
forbecause they destroying trees. However, the professor asserts that although bears damage trees but not the overall population(把 population,换为decline. Furthermore, there were no bears on the islands where the population is still in decline.(然后再写一个结束语,总结这个不是?)

Finally, the professor disproves the reading’s idea that climate change may cause the decrease. The professor, however, points out that more trees are dying in a warm weather of the lower elevations. So, the change of climate may not kill the trees.
然后这个说的是,低海拔地区应该比高纬度地区所受伤害小,然而事实并不是这样,而不是你所说的kill the trees,这样简单额)

1听力的内容放为重点,阅读也重要,听力的点首先要说的全面额;

2 lunaof

The reading passage concentrates on the issue of the remains of the actual animal tissues of Tyranosaurus rex (T. rex), the professor in the lecture also deals with the same topic. However, he is skeptical about the identifications of the author.

First, the author suggests that the soft substance inside the channels should be the remains of T.rex. The professor argues that the substance may be something else. This is because when bacteria colonize, they leave behind some kind of material, which means the substance might be traces of soft residue left behind by bacteria colonies. Obviously, the professor disproves the author's opinion.

Furthermore, despide the statement of the reading passage that the remains could be spheres, the professor thinks that the spheres can be found in the same place of other animals. In other words, the spheres probably a different origin.

Finally, the professor asserts that collagen doesn't come from the T.rex while the author of the reading passage insists on it. The professor proves that is unreasonable by pointing out that collagen can't live so long and it may come from researchers' skin.

The reading passage concentrates on the issue of employees prefer to work four days a week with 80 percent of their original pay. The professor in the lecture also deals with the same topic. However, the professor is skeptical about the ideas of the reading passage.

First, the author in the reading suggests that companies profits will be increased while the work weeks is cut down. The professor argues that shorten workweek increases comanies spend, this is because more new workers need to be added which requires more space and computer in this situation. Futhermore, dispite the statement of the reading passage that 4-day workweek reduces unemplyment rates, the professor thinks that the companies will ask the employees working overtime and raise their expctations to employees. That is to say, the employees need to do the same amount of 5-day workweek which lead them unpleasant.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
The main role of a university professor is to educate students rather than to do research.

No matter in which country, university professors are, without any exception, regarded as the role of educator, not to mention doing research. However, whether the main role is to educate students or do reseatch is magnet for controversy.

Admittedly, the duty of a university professor is to impart knowledge and educate people, which is the tradition since the ancient times. Also, the purpose of students attending colleges or universities is to gain various kinds of knowledge and form an own set of knowledge hierarchy. In this situation, the professors play a crucial role. In engineering management major, for example, there are many specialized courses which only fewer people know them or even are expert in them. All the students need are the professors in their department. Obviously, the  professors are essential to university students.

However, the professors in the college or university indeed need to do several research to enhance their scientific research capability so as to meet the demand of society. After all, just like scientists, they are standing at the frontiers of science and technology. It's their responsibility to make contributions in order to return socienty. More importantly, university professors need these scientific research products to confer the academic titles. What's more, it is also having impact on basic pay levers. All these force professors to allocate more time doing research. Accordingly, the role of a university professor doing research can not be ignored.

Furthermore, as the old saying goes: you're never too late to learn. Therefore, it is entirely reasonable for professors to do research to consolidate themselves. So it is going as a scientist, a CEO, a foreign executive, or other competitive positions. After all, as the enconomic globalization and technology progress, the competition is even fierce every three seconds on earth. In order to keep their jobs scurity and stability, hard work is definitely inevitable. While as a teacher, no one can deny that the most essentially work is to consider how to teach the students to learn best on not only the textbook knowledge, but also the fine personality.

All in all, although there lies various excuses to insist that the main role of a university professor is to educate students, it is pointless to make a distinction between educating students and doing research. As long as the students could benefit them in terms of accumulating research experience from their tutors and learning the necessary knowledgy they need in future.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Movies and television have more negative effects than positive effects on the way young people behave.

In present-day society, the human race is progressing at an unprecedented rate in a multitude of arenas. Accompanying all the boons brought about by the profound societal changes have come some sufferings, and the influence of movies and television is very prominent among them. Some people assert that movies and television are more negative to young people, while the adversaries strongly contend that they have more benefits instead. From my own perspective, their views have both merits and demerits.

Granted, there could be some positive effects movies and television may bring about. In the first place, just like the saying: read books do miles, we could get to know the local conditions and customs from movies and television by limited for the fund as an ordinary person. For instance, by watching Downton Abbey, a British-American television series, which is definitely popular currently, we can be familiar with the aspects of hierarchy between British upper nobles and their servants at that time. In the second place, the thinking mode of foreigners can be otbained which lead us to better understand each other.

However, the opponents firmly believe that movies and television, the product of the Industrial Revolution, also have adverse effect, and they are against it for a couple of sound reasons. Firstly, numerous studies prove the fact that there is a strong link between the increase of television watching and the decline of reading ability. Hence, a generation of unimaginative couch potatoes has been created. Secondly, TV distances people because they lack adequate face-to face communication. The loss of friends and decline of competitive ability are the most immediate impact. Thirdly, the unsuitable scenses, like violent and sexual, can even affect young's development in the future.

In the final analysis, I concede that to some extent, movies and television are benefit to people. However, they can also deeply influence on people's behavior. On balance, I am convinced that the influence of movies and television is various, whether which kind of influence on you depends on the way you treat them.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
It is better to relax by a movie or reading a book than doing physical exercise

Doing physical exercise is a much better opinion to relax compared to watching a movie or reading a book. So, I disagree that movies and books are more effective and necessary way of relaxation. In fact, people are suffering more serious illness nowadays than before for lacking of physical activities. Furthermore, doing exercise is a wonderful method to decrease pressures stem from hard working or studying. In other words, people need to maintain a balanced body which allows one to have a balance mind on top of it. Of course, the best way to achieve a balanced body is to keep a regular session of exercise.

First of all, doing daily physical exercise has long-term benefits, such as reducing the risks of many diseases, especially obesity and heart problems. In present-day society, people are facing the challenge of severe health problems. This is mainly due to unhealthy diet and irregular lifestyles. Most office workers used to eat in fast-food restaurants and intake lots of oily food or sugary food. And university students usually stay up late for studying or even playing computer games. A generation of coach potatoes has also been emerged along with the invention of TV set. All these lead to a situation urging to be solved. Under such circumstances, exercise regularlly is really helpful.

Secondly, doing physical exercise helps release a person from the heavy pressure. Nowadays, most people are becoming a sedentary society and exercise is becoming less and less part of our daily lives due to the extensive competition and burdensome pressures. The office workers, like the leader, will take unpredictable rikes n dealing
with the affairs whitin the group in his own way. And any wrong decision can lead to great loss under which he will lost his position and reputation as well. His health would easily breaks down if all the pressures accumulate to certain degree. Thus, the best choice is to doing regular exercise activities after work, like playing squash, can help him relax and relieve the pressure from work. As you can see, it really works.

Furthermore, physical exercise can improve blood circulation, speeding up the supply of nutrients and oxygen to every part of the body. Also, it can promote the ability of digestion and making our stomach stronger. Another important point worth mentioning is that it can make one become a quick, perceptive and clever person. In a word, physical exercise not only keeps people fit and strong, but also makes their life more colorful.

All that I have said above boils down to the conclusion that doing physical activities is a better choice than watching a movie or reading a book. Therefore, let us spare some time to take an active part in gyms in order to keep a healthy body.

2.里面的小问题就是,例子和论点之间的衔接不是很自然,显得有些生硬;

3.有些词和短语的应用显得是有些中国化了,和我一个毛病哈。

The reading passage concentrates on the issue of whether forming a team can be the best way for companies to perform a project. The professor in the lecture also deals with the same topic. However, the professor is skeptical about the ideas of the reading passage.

First, the author in the reading suggests that teams of people can move more quickly. On the contraty, the professor argues that it will take a long time for team members to reach concesus by attending many meetings about how the project would move along.

On top of that, the reading passage describes that responsibility spreading declines the risk which could lead to creative solutions. Howeverm professor asserts that the influencers always impact on the whole team. When those influecers said the idea might never work, it was quickly dropped without further discussing. Also, when a plan was convinced by some influecers of "high creation", even thouth it was might not work, the warning members were ignored by others. Futhermore, when the idea was proved to be wrong , all members should under the blame.

Finally, the professor disproves that some team members didn't contribute much at all  while the author states that it is very rewarding for members in a team. The professor proves that those "free ride" members also got benefits from the team while the real contributors rewarded no names be named. And the contributors were just opposited of reading prediction.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
The most important investment for a company is to spend money to improve the work skills of its employees.

Have you ever felt lost at sea  when you joined a corporation as a freshman? Have you ever wondered which form of working paper is standard? Have you ever worried about how to start your new project? If you have had such experiences, you would also agree that it is the most important investment for a company to spend money to improve the work skills of its employees.

Compared with many un-experienced young people, trained employees could bring more benefits to companies. The company can run more effectively and efficiently  with those trained people as well. This is because that those people could adapt to the fresh environment as soon as possible and also know how to deal with things in appropriate methods. For this reason, the fewer influence would impact on the whole company which can still run normally.  Also, trained people make less mistakes which probably could destroy enterprise with numerous loss. Another point which worths mentioning is that it also benefits to the economical efficiency of scale.

Futhermore, skilled employees can enhance the enterprise competitive power of  a company. As we all known, with the development of science and technology, more and more companies are founded, which lead to fiercer competition among them. In this particular circumstance, the success of a company depends largely on the enterprise human capital. However, where to employ so many excellence workers? Only most ordinary employees left. If a company spend more money to improve those common but hard working workers to be skillful. The competition of a company would definitely increased. You see, it's really improtant for training workers.

Admittedly, the demerits also emerge after training those employees by large amount of investment. Someone may believe that they have learnt everything and strong enough to choose a better vocation, which lead to the gigantic human loss of a company. However, this situation is just particular cases and depends on the corporate culture. If the culture subdue every worker in the company, they will enjoy it and love it, also want to stay here planning their occupation. Anyway, I will still insist on my opinion.

All in all, though human loss may contribute to big loss of a comany, the high efficiency and increased competition benefits the company a lot. In addition, outstanding corporate culture will also hold the employees. Thus, I absolutely agree that the most important investment for a company is to spend money to improve the work skills of its employees.

Both of the author and professor explore the issue about whether the painting-Portraint of an elderly woman in a white bonnet-was a work by Rembrandt. The writer says that there are several problems doubt it. The professor, on the contrary, insists that it proves to be paint by Rembrandt recently and totally against all the problems mentioned by the author.

First, the author in the reading passage suggests that the woman dressed inconsistent in the painting with a fur collar and a white linen cap and this would not be the mistake made by Rembrandt. However, the speaker declares that the fur collar was not part of the original painting by X-rays and analysis of the pigments in the paint, that is the collar was painted over the original one after about a hundred years maybe in order to increase the value of the paiting. Therefore, this directly disproves its counterpart in the reading material.

Futhermore, dispite the statement of the reading passage that the light and shadow of this painting do not fit together, the professor claims that the original painting would be perfect, removing the added fur color. And the simple light-colored collar reflects light leading to the face without shadow. Accordingly, this is another point where experienced the contradicted theory.

Finally, the professor asserts that the wood panel with several pieces of wood glued together was not the usual way by Rembrandt while the author states that the wood panel was also added to make the painting more grand and more valuable. What is more, the original piece of wood is form the very same tree as another painting of Rembrandt. Consequently, the last point is rebutted.
