标题: 求IR43题第一问（自己想通啦~~~大家来看看对不对）
我想问的是43A为嘛不选B？题目明明就说要限制对小学的支出，奇怪的是举例说花费不变的情况下，其他费用减少，小学的支出就可以变多，这哪来的条件啊？A教授根本没说啊

limit A to B是把A限制在B范围内的意思
Please limit letters to 125 words or less.
请把信函限制到125字或更少的字数内。
limit A on B才是限制A做B
He limited payments on the country's foreign debt.
他限制了国家外债的支付。

题目limit efforts to spending on primary schools是把efforts限制在投资小学啊，医疗啊和农业的范围内，也就是把钱投到这些地方，那么选项B就是教授A同意的，应该排除，选项AC就应该根据第二问来选，显然教授B是支持少投资教育的，所以选C~欧耶~\(^o^)/

唉，叹一句，果然外国人做这些文字题的时候很容易被骗

同求，很怀疑是不是题目的文章写错了

解释里说的好像是教授A认为要减少农业和医疗的支出，可文章里说的是减少教育支出

这个题我也没看懂，第二个靠第一个推出来没问题，可是第一个是怎么出来的呢？

这题要搞清问题问的是什么。因为题目说Prof A要否定1，而不是1否定Prof A的看法，所以只有A和C符合这个条件(所说的和Prof A的理论相反)。这时就要再看2的选项，因为Prof B要用2来支持1，而他的理论是要让村民自己支持教育，故要多投入农业，少投入教育。根据这一点，可以确定C才是最适合的。

我也倾向同意楼主关于“Limit it's efforts to的意思的理解，但是对于答案的解释感觉十分怪异。

The only statement in the table that the dialogue strongly suggests Professor A would disagree with is C.

For example, if the relative distribution of spending by the aid industry between primary schools in the poorest areas, medicines and other basic supplies for health care such as mosquito nets, and the few key agricultural initiatives is maintained, while spending in other areas is drastically reduced, then the aid industry will thereby focus its spending more on primary education than it now does.

这里他举的这个例子(For example 后的）是想说明什么呢？

他的题干里只在spending on primary schools用了in the poorest areas 限定，恰恰这个限定在C选项里面被拿掉了，而在解释里又拿出来了。从另一个角度理解，他C里面所指的spending less 是指所有的Primary schools么？这样，按照他的举例，因为所有Primary schools都减少所以按照他的说法then the aid industry will thereby focus its spending more on primary education than it now does.

个人认为，这道题这里的解释和举例也未免显得牵强和无厘头，欢迎各位拍砖～

这题解释确实很奇怪, 但是感觉在解释("while spending in other areas is drastically reduced")中的other areas应该指aid industry援助的除了教育医疗和农业以外的其他行业, 而不是除了poorest areas以外的其他地区. 晕哪.

Reasoning diagram:

Professor A: contends to limit efforts in three aspects as below:
1. Spending on primary school in poorest area
2.

roviding medicine and other basic supply for health care
3. A few key agriculture initiatives

Professor B: road better than a teacher <-- if local people could transport the products, they will pay for school and make sure the effects

Purpose: we need two options:
1.

rofessor A opposed
2.

rofessor B will use it to support 1.

It will be easy if we start from confirming the “2”, Viz. professor B will agree with it:
Only F is closed to it

Then we need confirm “1”
The key is which one is the “2” support, viz. not put so much money on school, obviously, only C.

In test, up to now, it is ok; we do not need further more work. But right now, we can:

Professor contends: limit efforts in three aspects, viz. the total amount should be reduced. That purpose is the key, not just reduced efforts in just one aspect, not two aspects. The “C” only address one aspect, so it is against to the professor’s argument.

引用十九楼的看法，limit efforts on……的意思还是限制，也就是减少在这些方面的支出。
但是professor A强调的是在三个方面都减少开销，而C选项中仅仅是减少了其中一项，从而导致在教育方面的支出反而增多了，因此这和professor A 的看法是完全相反的。这样一来，答案的解析也就显得合理了。
看了半天好像也是模模糊糊，不知道是不是酱紫嘞？

limit sth to doing （to 在这里是介词）, the effort to do sth, 从这样解释是不是可以说明该句话的意思是，将努力集中在支持教育，医药等上呢？这样就可以解释第一个选C了，第二个选F了。还有一样不懂，若providing是与spending on primary,和a few key ..并列，为何不补全to呢。根据平行规则，要补就都补，要不补就都不补的呢？还是说 a few key 不和providing并列？

想半天没想清楚。你是高手啊。终于明白了，自己琢磨半天觉得题错了。。。。这样的话其实先看选项，解决第二问，再来看第一问要容易的多。否则第一问会限定在a，c内。

刚刚查了longman和marriam-webster，对limit的用法稍稍补充下~~
limit作动词时，1. limit sth，此时没有具体限制的内容；2.limit sth to...后面接的是可行的范围。
limit做名词时，后面才用on，一般是 a limit on sth/sb。
但两种的意思都是限制到某个范围~~~而理解错可能是受汉语的影响。

LZ给的例子He limited payments on the country's foreign debt.
我觉得【payments on the country's foreign debt】是个整体，与limit应该没有关系吧？
这里只说了有这么个限制，但没有说范围，如果要加范围的话，后面可能会接on $$$。
也就是He limited payments on the country's foreign debt to ***$.
