Write a response in which you discuss theextent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain yourreasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting you position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold trueand explain how these considerations shape your position.
Is imagination more important thanknowledge in most professions and academic fields? I concede that imaginationis to be preferred anytime you can be stimulated your thinking over knowledgethat constraint you. Otherwise, I find the speaker’s position troubling. Itignores the fact that a strong connection between the imagination and knowledgein developing research.
The primary reason for my disagreement withthe speaker’s position is that imagination and knowledge need not be mutuallyexclusive. In the first place, if one adopts the view that imagination shouldbe utilized in every field to achieve the perfect consequence withoutfoundation and basic theory to support, then the outcome may be unpractical, unrealistic and impracticable------at least tentatively. In the secondplace, in order to gain success in the professions and academic fields one mustcombine the imagination and knowledge they learned together.
Another reason why I tend to disagree withthe speaker’s position is that it flies in the face of how to be creative.History informs us that, for better or worse, creative idea comes fromimagination, and imagination based on the knowledge one gained. Moreover, wecould find out that the imagination express without theory foundation could notestablished long, also unaccepted by the mundane. In the development of anindividual, the ideology of him or her must spring from imagination andknowledge. Thus to assert the imagination is more important than knowledge isto deny the significance of knowledge and the experience.
However, I’m not to deny the significanceof imagination. On the one hand, imagination is a method to break down theconstraints of former custom and concept, but the book knowledge sometimeswould imprison our thinking. Under the circumstances, imagination seems to bemore important than book and knowledge from other places to be easier tostimulate individuals’ creation. Consider architects such as Joslash Utzon whodesigned Sydney Opera House, Ieoh Ming Pei who designed Louvre Museum. Theirdesigns are replete with creative and imaginative.
On the other hand, knowledge has thecharacteristic of inheritance and duration, also can be developed and modifiedduring the utilization and carry forward. Without knowledge, imagination wouldgradually become fantasy and the effect of imagination is totally discount. Thesearchitects are bound to have profound knowledge, a powerful observation oflife, an insightful comprehension and rich experiences. How could we sayimagination is more important than knowledge?
Finally, lacking imagination individualswill tend to be rigid and stiff whether in their own life or occupation.Meanwhile, lacking knowledge individuals will probably get into an unrealisticand unpractical way in which they thought are fantasy. Most people in workingignored the pragmatic and objectivity would be suffered in the future. Knowledgeis as important as imagination.
In sum, the speaker’s assertion could bedeveloped into imagination is as important as knowledge. All the two factorsare significant in every professions and academic fields, are necessary meansto achieving success, moreover, are the method to approach the truth and tobetter understand our world.作者: 竹林中人 时间: 2012-5-10 00:55
