第一次碰到so as to是在这道题里，估计大家都已经讨论烂了

OG10-171. In 1527 King Henry VIII sought to have his marriage to Queen Catherine annulled so as to marry Anne Boleyn.

(A)so as to marry

(B)and so could be married to

(C)to be married to

(D)so that he could marry

(E)in order that he would marry

Key: D 不选A的解释是so as to is not idiomatically correct.

接下来在这题中又碰到了

0G12-65. In a plan tostop the erosion of East Coast beaches, the Army Corps of Engineers proposed building parallel to shore a breakwater of rocks that would rise six feet abovethe waterline and act as a buffer, so that it absorbs the energy ofcrashing waves and protecting the beaches.

对B错误的解释是so as to is awkward.

心想so as to在GMAT里面应该普遍是错误的，然后翻看以前的讨论贴有什么需要单一主语，so as to 前面一定要是单一的主谓结构，还有说so as to一定是错的等等结论，相信大家都看过了

但是我翻看OG的时候发现两道CR题中出现了so as to,其他部分就不用看了，看黑体字的句子吧

OG12-7. 看到这里我就很迷茫了，貌似这个两个CR里so as to的用法和之前讨论的都不一样，有谁能解释一下so as to到底该怎么用呢？当需要判断该用so as to还是so that的时候该怎么判断呢？谢谢NN们！！！！！

n general, you don't use so ADJ as to VERB unless the VERB describes some sort of state/condition. i.e., if the verb is an action verb, this construction generally isn't used.
for instance,
i am so ugly as to be viscerally repulsive to women. --> this works, because the verb “to be” describes a state/condition.
i am so ugly as to repel women on sight. --> you generally wouldn't see this in good writing, as “repel” is an action verb; the sentence would probably be written as i am so ugly that i repel women on sight.
