(D) whatever he lacked in technical skill was more than made up for by（B）

(E) whatever he lacked in technical skill he more than made up by

为什麽不是D, make up for 不是有补偿的意思吗，我觉得这道题考的就是make up for 的用法，请指点

首先but the conductor felt..后需宾语从句, whatever作为介词没有这个能力

另外, make up后可跟to,for也可以不跟, 从这句话来看应该不跟, by只是表达被动句中的施动者

I just check my dictionary, whatever 在韦氏字典的第一个用法就是代词，举例如下

a anything or everything that

例take whatever you want

b no matter what

例whatever he says, they won't believe him

c whatnot

例 enjoys striking, hiking, or whatever

倒是没看到介词词性

我终于找到答案了，在韦氏字典里有这样一条解释

make up 相当于Vt

make up for 相当于Vi

不及物动词应该不能用被动，而这道题是被动，

whatever 有一点语气加强的意思，所以D错

请指正

斑竹，能不能提个建议，把发贴不多的CD等级的名字改改，不要叫什麽游民，叫论坛入门或者 whatever

总觉得游民有一种游手好闲的意味
