标题: issue 53求拍 [打印本页] 作者: xiao超超1992 时间: 2012-5-1 22:26 标题: issue 53求拍 The author claims that any means taken to attain a goal are justifiable, as long as the goal is worthy. While some people adhere to this viewpoint, others strongly reject to it, which gives rise to the hot discussion whether we should take any means to garner the final goal, no matter the means we undertake are justifiable. As far as I am concerned, I concede that to some extent, some means taken to attain the goal are justifiable, though the way is improper; however, it is not every excuse or effort to attain a worthy goal that is justifiable.
Obviously, it is difficult for one to determine whether a goal is worthy or not, no matter from individual and social perspective. Actually, a goal, which is worthy taken for granted from one’s perspective of view, may be totally rejected by others. For example, the development of heavy industry would bring about more revenue, job opportunities and the impetus for the development of economics, all of which are beneficial not only to the individuals, but the society. Nevertheless, at the same time, from some environmentalists’ perspectives, they will unimpeachably reject to the foundation of these factories since they do more harm to the surroundings than the benefits, such as the reduction in the air conditions and so forth.
On one hand, once provided that a goal is worthy, it is true that some means taken to attain it is justifiable, although under most conditions, these means are improper. For instance, when the goals are aimed at mollifying some people, then the lies should be taken into consideration, as long as such lies are inviolate and innocuous. For supporting examples one need look no further than the patients in hospital. To disguise a patient’s incurable disease is sometimes called a white lie, though the behavior of deception is unseemly. Moreover, if the goals are set in order for the long-term interests, then some means are ponderable, though at the moment such means are unpopular and discourage, even quixotic. Take the example of Miami Club, which recruited LeBron James at the expense of a large amount of capital and a draft lottery pick, just for the final champion of the NBA.
While on the other hand, not every excuses or efforts to attain a worthy goal are justifiable. For one reason, it is sometimes that the gains are not worth the candle. For instance, some students would stay up till late in the evening, leading to the poor physical conditions. Moreover, some excuses are too extreme to adopt, just as the claims of environmental extremists to close all the factories, or the claims of vegetarians to ban hunting animals. In addition, there are numerous examples that are persuasive.
Overall, while under some circumstances, some improper means to attain a worthy goal are ponderable, some other means are unjustifiable to get it. Thus, what deserves attention is that we should hold the right attitude towards it and treat it in a wholesome way. Otherwise, if we are free to take any means to attain the worthy goal, then the society will be in an irremediably disorder.
