介词短语做状语，状语后置，用来说明award的目的，翻译过来就是授予CMH奖章，该奖章是国家最高军事奖，以表彰他们出色的勇敢

再想问一下，D中for修饰award和E中in修饰award在意思上有什么区别吗？？
看了半天也没觉得有什么不同诶... 不懂...

D错只是因为 in recognition of 的固定用法么？

这个问题我建议你多看看for/of/to/in/等等这些介词结构在正确句子中的表达，多读了就有感觉。

目前根据我的总结，for和to虽然都是表目的，但for强调的是一种固有的、内在的性质，而to是说做了A的目的是为了...因此用somebody did/do something to ....这里的did/do可以换成实意动词

因此D这里错在这个国家最高奖项本身不是具有recognition of ...的属性，而是这一次的授予这个奖项这件事，是为了达到这个目的。
