A的only修饰心脏病和癌症

B的only修饰surpassed

重心不一样，A说仅仅那两种病比这个病造成的死亡率高
B的only指的是被超越这件事本身。

我也是这么认为的,但为什么OG的解释是 only is correctly placed next to the phrase it limits. 那不就意味着surpassed only by heart disease and cancer, 修饰的是surpassed 而不是 heart disease and cancer.

这话说的对呀，next to的意思是靠近所要限定的词那，only在限制时都是放在词的前面不是吗？所以就是限制 heart disease and cancer了。如果它要限制surpassed,就放在surpassed前面啦。

O, 原来是这样. 我可能理解偏差了, 以为A next to B 的意思是A 在 B后.

是only 修饰的位置不一样，supassed only 修饰的是 only 后面的成分， only supassed ，only 修饰的是 surpassed。
