If 500 is the multiple of 100 that is closest to x and 400 is the multiple of 100 that is closest to y, which multiple of 100 is
closest to x + y ?
(1) x < 500
(2) y < 400
题目是什么意思呀？

"400 is the multiple of 100 that is closest to y" means
350<y<450 (II)

Even if we combine (1) and (2) to get
450<x<500
350<y<400
Add up, 800<(x+y)<900
We still don't know whether 800 or 900 is the multiple of 100 that closest to (x+y).
Therefore the correct answer should be E.
