Despite surface appearances, the nouns changes and variations are parallel with tilting, but the verbal forms changing and varying in A, B, and C are not: tilting, one of the deformations of the Earth’s crust, is used here as a noun that is parallel to fluctuations, whereas changing and varying are used as verbs indicating some action undertaken. （平行） Moreover, these verbs are used incorrectly because the sentence mentions no subject that is performing these actions. （见到动词，要想到动词的发起人） B and E illogically state that it is not the strain but the measurements that portend danger, （平行不仅要注意形式上的平行，更要注意逻辑上的平行） and among in E wrongly suggests a comparison of different electrical properties rather than of different behaviors of the same properties. （??）

among表示"在...中",among后面跟的名词表示一个群体(群体中个体的个数多于两个),比如among students在一帮学生中,among CDers,among apples...本题among properties的意思就是:在许多许多个不同的properties中.而原文需要表达的是,properties本身的变化,因此用in.

按OG的意思，

variations among 则指 rocks的不同properties之间的差异；这个还好理解。那么，

variations in electrical properties of underground rocks 指什么？

是具有相同的electrical properties的rocks的什么行为的差异？具体怎么翻译？实在看不出来。

恍然一下，我已经看懂了。

不过，我还有个问题，

关于variation与variance的问题。variation表示变化，variance表示差异。

变化当然不用among；而差异就可以了。

不知道我对variation与variance的解释对不对？

个人见解

我觉得ＯＧ讲得应该是changes in the measured strain(force和changes in measurements of the strain 之间得区别。前者强调得是force得changes而后者强调得是changes in measurements.也就是说，后者强调得是 different behaviors of the same properties

1. 尽量不要改变原句的句意。

2. OG一般认为：strain（张力）的变化产生危险；而不是strain的测量值的变化，后者更多只是一种体现。这里有点语意逻辑的概念，纵观OG，有很多相似的观点，值得总结一下。只是在做题时，很难很快定位，大家小心变化(changes)出现的时候就可以了。

3. 关于variation和variance的解释，尤其适用于variation。

4. 原句，comparisons of different behaviors of 就是指变化的意思。

                                 White bread is really just a variation of French bread.

2. variation in X of sth (事物在 X 方面的不同，为表示在某些方面，前面要用介词“in”，本题即是）

3. variation among/between（事物之间的差别，among一般用在两者以上的比较，between一般用在两者之间
                同的比较）

这句是这样的意思: 本来句子要表达的是当被测量的张力(的变化)是(地震)的警示信号,而E选项却表达了这样一个意思:这种测量的方法预示着一个地震.  这样逻辑上就不对了.  测量的方法怎么能预示地震呢!

changes in the measured strain : 强调的是strain的变化,

而changes in measurements of the strain 强调的是measurments的变化.

根据题目:地震的预警信号是被测张力的改变,而不是测量的改变.

OG这句话的意思是:E选项说测量的改变预示地震,其实是被测张力的改变是预警信号.

标题: tiliting为何做名词解

想了很久，看到ETS的解释后恍然大悟, 大家都来好好看看这句话：

tilting, one of the deformations of the Earth's crust, 。。。

明白了吧，这里的tiliting是deformation的一种，鉴于没有合适的表达倾斜意思的名词，ETS万般无奈只能用动词的名词形式来表达意思。当然也有可能是故意迷惑咱呢
