标题: OG12-16 关于比较和平行以及double的新问题？
16. Retail sales rose 0.8 of 1 percent in August, intensifying expectations that personal spending in the Julv-September quarter more than doubled that of the 1.4 percent growth rate in personal spending for the previous quarter.
(A) that personal spending in the July-September quarter more than doubled that of
(B) that personal spending in the July-September quarter would more than double
(C) of personal spending in the July-September quarter, that it more than doubled
(D) of personal spending in the July-September quarter more than doubling that of
(E) of personal spending in the July-September quarter, that it would more than double that of

答案是B，对于that/of；expectation。。。would什么的都没有问题
可是我不是很清楚这句话的结构到底是什么，看之前的帖子也没有明白，希望大家指点~

1.more than前后不是应该平行才对吗？这句话的比较对象到底什么？
personal spending in the July-September quarter 和the 1.4 percent growth rate in personal spending for the previous quarter比较吗？不对吧？
2.double是做动词的吗？那它前面加more than也是对的吗？

句意应该是，8月份的零售额上升了百分之0.8，进一步证实了预期：7-9月份的个人消费将两倍于上一季度百分之1.4的增长还多。
对吧？

这个是我刚才在NYtimes找的一个headline,
你可以有两种理解：spending省略了growth rate, 其实就是spending的growth rate more than doubled 后面那个数 或者理解为在某些情况下more than double是整体作为形容词性的短语修饰前面名词性的部分的。

我的理解是，在知识积累到一定时候就要跳出原本的条条框框，用逻辑和理解去思考，把GMAT当做一种商业规范的英语语言去对待，而非利用大量对于知识点的记忆去在考场上recall

这样的话不单GMAT语法会更上一层楼，整个语言水平都会有所提升

"more than" is just an adverb that modifies the verb "double". You can just delete it when answering this SC question.
This question has been discussed so many times... Please help yourself and do some search.

对于D选项OG的解释怎么看？OG说Although this option is not technically wrong,it is less clear and graceful than B.
我自己看到这个题目第一反应就是看到expectation后面的整个意群（有助于personal spending，有谓语double）是一个复杂意群，而不是说expectation 的仅仅是一个personal spending，所以like就排除掉of的用法了，这个算not technically wrong？？
