He suggested that you take your time, say, a week, to give some thoughts on this topic. I suggest that you obtain Prof. A's papers and familiarize yourself with his work and his methodologies first. In addition, a willingness to learn and use quantitative methods (in addition to qualitative methodologies) in your empirical work is preferable. So, could you give me your one-pager by next Monday?
btw, 不知道你申请的是啥方向，如果是OB，那我建议你谨慎对待“a willingness to learn and use quantitative methods (in addition to qualitative methodologies) in your empirical work is preferable”这句话。如果没接触过真正的qualitative research，别在proposal里过多提及这一点，因为你没有那样的知识储备，考读几篇文献也是没有实际意义的。学术圈对于qualitative research有根本性的错误认识，如果那个教授恰巧是qualitative method强的并且懂行的，那最smart的方法就是尽量一带而过qualitative，专注在quantitative方面。作者: taozhexiong 时间: 2012-3-22 22:41
斑主，我申请的他们家strategy & organization,联系我的是一个AP，然后回邮件问了，她给我的建议是"Although Dr. David's main interest is to see what north American empirical sites you might be interested in exploring. So please focus on that topic. 建议页面设置改成letter size，四面margin 2cm, single space，12磅times new roman，一页是650上下 words的样子，简洁点应该可以说清楚一件事了。这个是加拿大申请national grant的标准格式，看起来也不会奇怪。
