Reason: People who lack experience are free to imagine what is possible without the constraints of established habits and attitudes.
Is imagination a more valuable asset than experience, as the statement contends? Surely, imagination can help us put our goals in perspective and it enhances our creativity. However, I fundamentally disagree with this statement because the claimer overstates the importance of the imagination and ignores the effect of the experience.
First, there is no escaping the fact that imagination is a valuable asset which can help us break the constraints of established habits and put our goals in perspective. As a matter of fact, myriads of great inventions in this world such as airplane are the products of the imaginations. During the programming of the plane, people think they are able to create new vehicles, which can deliver passengers from place to place very quickly and easily by mimicking the forms of birds. Of course, this creativity idea just comes from the imagination. Without imagination, people shall never realize the full potential, and therefore, never make the new and creativity ideas which is very different from the normal one. Furthermore, without imagination, people will make any great inventions and make this world a better place in which to live while improving social and economic conditions for ourselves and others.
Despite the merits of the speaker's claim, however, I disagree with the statement because the speaker overstates the importance of the imagination and ignores the effect of the experience. Experience is the foundation of the imagination. No one can make any useful ideas just by imagination. Without experience, we are just like a shoppers in a giant supermarket, to wander the aisles, picking products at random, never sure that their selections will add up to a nutritious meal. Moreover, if a man is poor in experience, he will never find any questions and bad situations which need answered or improved. Even if he is a man full of imagination, he will make any invention or a contribution to this society. Finally, experience can give several guidance to us. We are able to learn some important rules from the experience which are possible to help us handle whatever life may present, including all the unknowns of the future.
Finally, perhaps mostly importantly, it is not a contradiction that the imagination and experience is equally important as well. In fact, the experience and imagination supplement each other, from experience to imagination, from imagination to the experience. They unify the activities of the inventions and make a great contribution to our society. Isacc Newton's law of gravity is popularly attributed to a imagination when he observed a falling apple. But Newton would have never made this great discovery if he hadn’t acquired any experience or knowledge of the physicals.
In sum, I concede that imagination is a very precious asset because it can help us put our goals in perspective and it enhances our creativity. However, experience is an important property as well. In my opinion, the imagination and experience is equally important as well.
