GWD25-Q12.
12. GWD25-Q12.

In Kantovia, physicians’ income comes from insurancecompanies, which require physicians to document their decisions in treatingpatients and to justify deviations from the companies’ treatment guidelines.Ten years ago physicians were allowed more discretion. Most physicians believethat the companies’ requirements now prevent them from spending enough timewith patients. Yet the average amount of time a patient spends with a physicianduring an office visit has actually increased somewhat over the last ten years.

Which of the following, if true, most helps toresolve the apparent discrepancy between physicians’ perceptions and the changein the actual time spent?

A.     Patients are more likely to be in a hurry nowadays and areless willing to wait a long time to see their physician.

B.     Physicians today typically have a wider range of options indiagnosis and treatment to consider with the patient before prescribing.

C.     Physicians are increasingly likely to work in grouppractices, sharing the responsibility of night and weekend work.

D.     Most patients would rather trust their physicians thantheir insurance companies to make decisions about their treatment.

E.      Since the insurance companies pay physicians a set amountfor each office visit, it is to physicians’ financial advantage to see as manypatients as possible.

premises
1. insurance companies' treatment guidelines----physicians' income
2. less discretions now are allowed
conclusion
physicians want more time while the average amount of time with a patient is actually increasing.

the necessary assumption to establish this conclusion.
physicians now have to spend more time to choose the right treatment to match the insurance companies' treatment guidelines.

So, B just provide the necessary condition to make this assumption eatablished.

In addition, putting option B into the whole argument, it plays a role just like the NO.2 premise above.

I think you should carefully read it again.

The story is that less discretions are allowed and more indiagnosis and treatment have to be considered now so it is much more time consuming for the physicians to choose the right one to guarantee their incomes.

That's like I gave you ten apples and asked you to choose the apples which ranged from 100g to 200g before, but now I give you 20 apples and ask you to choose the apples which range from 130g to 170g. Obviously, you need more time to finish your job now.

In logic, the scentence"Yet the average amount of time a patient spends with a physicianduring an office visit has actually increased somewhat over the last ten years." doesn't make any sense except disturbing you judgement since there is no relationship between the time needed and the time actually spent.

想问一下为什么the companies’ requirements now prevent them from spending enough timewith patients

Ten years ago physicians were allowed more discretion.
Most physicians believe that the companies’ requirements now prevent them from spending enough timewith patients.
一直在关注这两句话,以为were allowed more discretion导致了prevent them from spending enough time
Even though ten years ago physicians were allowed more discretion.
most physicians believe that the companies’ requirements now prevent them from spending enough timewith patients.
