HOW TO STAY FOCUSED After you click an answer choice and hit ?con?firm ?to move on, close your eyes, take a breath, count to three, and then ?only then ?open your eyes and look at the next question. Like I said, it?s simple. But if it works for you as well as it works for me, you won?t believe the difference. In case you a?re worried about using so much time to do something other than answer questions, do the math. Three seconds times forty breaks (one between each question) is two minutes. I guarantee you that you?ll save that time by being that much more refreshed when you look at each question.
Additionally, since the test is presented on a computer screen, it?s important to give yourself short breaks from staring at that screen. I?m a big proponent of doing as much scratchwork as you can--?in other words, move the problem off the screen and onto your scratch paper. That isn?t really possible on Verbal, at least not to the same extent that it is for math. However, there is one way you can get your eyes o¤ the screen for another moment or two. Each question, after you take a short breather, don?t look right back at the screen. Instead, turn your focus to your scratch paper, where you?ll write the number of the question, and ?A B C D E.? That way, if the question turns out to be tricky, and you want to keep track of which answer choices you can eliminate, you can cross them off on your scratch paper. This is a great way to stay focused, and it also helps you keep track of which choices you?ve evaluated, and which conclusions you?ve arrived at.
Which of the following most logically completes the argument?
A new machine for harvesting corn will allow rows to be planted only fifteen inches apart, instead of the usual thirty inches.Corn planted this closely will produce lower yields per plant.Nevertheless, the new machine will allow corn growers to double their profits per acre because __________.
(A) with the closer spacing of the rows, the growing corn plants will quickly form a dense canopy of leaves, which will, by shading the ground, minimize the need for costly weed control and irrigation
(B) with the closer spacing of the rows, corn plants will be forced to grow taller because of increased competition for sunlight from neighboring corn plants
(C) with the larger number of plants growing per acre, more fertilizer will be required
(D) with the spacing between rows cut by half, the number of plants grown per acre will almost double
(E) with the closer spacing of the rows, the acreage on which corn is planted will be utilized much more intensively than it was before, requiring more frequent fallow years in which corn fields are left unplanted

In a recent poll of chief executive officers(CEOs) of 125 large corporations, the overwhelming majority claimed that employee training and welfare is of the same high priority as customer satisfication. So the popular belief that the top management of large corporations behaves indifferently to the needs and aspirations of employees is unfounded.
The argument is most vulnerable to criticism on the grounds that it
A) fails to define adequately the term "top management"
B) presumes, without giving justification, that one is not indifferent to something that one considers a top priority
C) presumes, without giving justification, that the CEOs' priorities tend to be misplaced
D) presumes, without giving justification, that the CEOs' claims are reflected in actual practice
E) makes a generalization based on an unrepresentative sample作者: michaelmay17 时间: 2012-3-6 12:17
