Unlike human runners, who broke the four-minute mile in 1954 and they consistently recorded faster times ever since, horses in classic races such as the Kentucky Derby have had winning times with little improvement: Secretariat’s world-record-breaking Derby tine of 1:59 2/5, for example, was set in 1973 and remained unsurpassed more than a quarter of a century later.
unlike human runners, 谁… horses 还是those of horses?
1.ever since前是否一定要用完成时态呢?who did and have done...好,还是 who did and did 好呢?
2.unlike human runners, horses have... /还是 those of horses...

Emily suspected that apples are unhealthy ever since she almost choked to death while eating an apple when she was a child. Now, evidence that apples treated with certain pesticides can be health hazards shows that Emily’s long-held belief is fully justified.
487-16-10. Like the color-discriminating apparatus of the human eye, insects’ eyes depend on recording and comparing light intensities in three regions of the electromagnetic spectrum.
(A) insects’ eyes depend on
(B) an insect eye depends on
(C) that of insects depend on the
(D) that of an insect’s eye depends on(D)
(E) that of an insect’s is dependent on the
Derby tine (这里可能是time,为typo) of 1:59 2/5 was set in 1973 and remained unsurpassed more than a quarter of a century later.
对应broke the four-minute mile in 1954 and consistently recorded faster times ever since
同意C
horses in classic races 已经是说明是horse runners了,不需要再补上those of horses。。。
those of horses里的those如果指代runner, 即runner of horses, 意思不是赛马者, 什么都不是.
who broke the four-minute mile in 1954 and have consistently recorded faster times ever since
in 1954-->past tense
ever since-->pefect
who broke the four-minute mile in 1954 and have consistently recorded faster times ever since
为 什 么 a and d 都 有 have had winning times with little improvement 这 到 底 是 什 么 的 现 在 分 词 时 。 have winning???

run‧ner / ˈrʌnə $ -ər / [countable]
1
someone who runs for sport or pleasure
ᅳsee also jogger a long-distance runner a marathon runner
2
a horse that runs in a race
The runners and riders appear in Friday's Racing Post.
