括号中要填的不是和前面括号中的对称即可? 那was在这里做什么呢？

是。it was不能省略，省略的一个原则是省略前文出现过的内容，前面没有出现过be动词，所以不能省略it was.

2）为什么要用D中的making形式，用CE中的to do或and do形式可不可以？

这里分词短语做结果状语, 表示经济的多元化是由于电子和银行业的职位的增多。如果是to do, and do, 那么应该和前面主句的gain another quarter-million jobs对应，改变了句子的意思和逻辑。

to 表示目的，但是gain another quarter-million jobs 与the state’s economy far more diversified 没有因果关系。

所以我说"经济的多元化是由于电子和银行业的职位的增多".
