我选B. A的attempting没有明确的逻辑主语，似乎是被判刑的那个作家。

这里b 中的it无论修饰那个名次都有问题，如果为A 逻辑意思错，如果为Russian 应该为them因为这里Russin为集体名词，（否则他要加a /the了）鉴于此严重错误，我选ａ　，

这里介词短语in attampting to 由于本句为被动，句子主语为Ｒussian　，故修饰对象为Russian而非　Ａ　。

To 麻集,

1. 一般GMAT里面分词都要考虑逻辑主语的。比如，OG62里的解释: Moreover, these verbs are used incorrectly because the sentence mentions no subject that is performing these actions.

2. GMAT里面似乎没有集合名词用复数这样的说法，比如OG198里面的拿破仑的army是用it指代的。所以这点我的看法与joe11 gg一致。

斑竹。这点你错了。这里的russian不合army一样。而等同为people ，poor. 这类词表达为一堆人一类人。 army 应该是一个集合类似于 group 这样的词。

关于people 用were 不用 was 这种题og 大全上大把，你搜索一下就看到了。

同意选A，这里的Russian不可能特指某个俄国人，也不是某个俄国人的集合，还有后面的代词him 指向了a famous writer，这里只能是泛指，所以这里的代词its有问题。A中的结构是by sb in doing sth，我觉得逻辑上没有问题（后面的him）发出者只能是Russian。

A中in attempting的逻辑主语有歧义吧.可以是主句主语someone, B清楚表明是russian.

前两天在忙考T, 所以没继续看这帖。后来看到gerry3x兄说在考试时居然碰上了这题，心中惶恐，希望没有误导gerry3x兄。关于机井的讨论，我比较注重于印证自己对ETS考点的理解，而不注重答案的选择。

分词要注意逻辑主语，这个是OG一再强调的考点。除了我前面说的OG62, 还有OG175也明确指出要用所有格表示分词的逻辑主语。Furthermore, the word bodies would need an apostrophe (bodies’) since it is the logical subject of the gerund burning (that is, it answers the question, “Whose burning?”).

gigi有句很经典的话，差异点就是考点。这里的另一个选项补出了its，不得不让我怀疑逻辑主语的问题。所以我认为这里的第一考点是逻辑主语的问题。

虽然，its指代Russian的确比较怪，但是ETS考的指代单复数错误都很明显，比如有复数形式s的名词后面用it指代，或者是单数名词用them。相对而言，ETS不会考集合名词的概念。(插一句，我觉得中国人的英语考试才会考这个。)

所以综上，我还是觉得选B。当然，没有其他的选项，这是唯一的选择。

应该是B

ITS指代清晰指代RUSSIAN

A中的ATTEMPING的逻辑主语不对,不能说一定指代RUSSIAN
