The statement points out that any means taken to attain a goal which is worthy are justifiable. To some extent, it seems reasonable since only if try our best via various means, the worthy goal can be attained. However, what is a worthy goal? Is it reasonable to take any means even if the means will be negative to the society? Maybe we can get answers from the conclusion to these questions in different fields.
In political field, if the worthy goal of the politician and leaders is to make themselves continue to rule the country, and in order to attain this worthy goal, they cheat the nation's people. Take the matter of "watergate" as an example. The fore American president Nixon made the worthy goal as to continue to be the next American president, and he wiretapped the rival's preparation for the election so as to make coping strategies for his victory in the election. It can be understood that Nixon expected to serve another term of office, and by the means of wiretapping, he might attain his worthy goal without the matter being uncovered, however, as an old Chinese saying goes,"Nothing can be uncovered forever", and once the people of the nation knew the fact, they may be suspicious for his government's credit, thus he would not be the president sooner or later . In military field, if the worthy goal of some nations is to get the hegemony over the world, and in order to attain this worthy goal, they recklessly start war ignoring numerous innocent people. For instance, in the 1930s, Japan invaded China in order to make China as its colony, which brought about considerable property damage and destroyed millions of people's lives. As the world's globalization, all countries should develop together and build a harmony world together, thus that so-called worthy goal of controlling the world which may be detrimental for the development of the world cannot be really worthy, furthermore, the loss of the mean of starting war brought about could never be compensated.
In business field, if the worthy goal of some enterprises is to make as much as profits, and in order to attain this worthy goal, they make shoddy as good commodities, to bribe officials....For example, the enterprise of Sanlu put some detrimental materials into shoddy milk powders for decreasing the cost, which may make more profits in short time, however, it leads numerous babies to be ill or even to die. It is easy to understand that the enterprises expect to make much profits however, it is obvious to see that this mean not only cannot attain the goal in the long run since people would not trust this brand any more after knowing the negative effect of the milk powders , but also has a bad effect on the society that parents are grieved by their babies' death and numerous parents may still be afraid that may purchase such milk powders, thus it is not conductive to social stability.
In conclusion, one should define that a worthy goal should not do harm to others expect for factorable for oneself, and even if the goal is really worthy, what the means which taken to attain it brought about should be harmless.作者: lukebrehm 时间: 2012-1-24 23:37
