13) Universities should require every student to take a variety of courses outside the student's field of study.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position.

The statement recommends that universities should require students to take a variety of courses outside the student's field of study. To some extent, it is beneficial for students to learn more knowledge thus they can be more competitive in the society. However, there are also some negative aspects in the recommendation.

The statement seems to assume that in this increasingly competitive society, students are required to learn general knowledge thus they can deal with various situations. For example, to some students who are major in physic, it is beneficial for them to learn some courses concerning interpersonal relationship, which is almost a key to success in the society that every student may have some knowledge about it. Furthermore, learning a various courses outside the major fields may help students to find another interest, thus enrich their life. Meanwhile, learning some courses such as music for students who are major in computer science may help them release themselves when they are tired with the major study.

However, education should be humanism. Humanism education points out that every person have curiosity to explore something they don't know. And students have the right to choose fields of study, thus it is not suitable for universities to make requirement for students to learn some fields outside their major study. Universities should define their task is to aid and manage teaching rather than interfering students' choice. It is possible that for some students, major study is the only interest that they have, and they may devote themselves into it with the expect that avoiding disturbed by any other courses.

Furthermore, it is unnecessary for universities to require students to take a various courses outside their major field. Since the goal to make this requirement should be that students can really learn something useful. If students are interested in the courses that universities require, they will be desire to explore it even if universities don't require them to learn. If students are not interested in those courses, they will learn only to finish the assignment rather than absorbed some knowledge from those courses, thus it is meaningless to make them comply the requirement.

In addition, students don't necessarily have more energy to put in courses other than which they are major in. Thus if universities make a variety of courses outside the student's field of study to be compulsory courses. It may result in students' low efficience thus make them not only cannot get achievement in their major field but also be fed up with courses that the universities require and originally have interest in.

In conclusion, rather than requiring every student to take various courses outside the student's field of study, universities should try their best to offer sufficient educational resources to aid students to choose some field which they are interested in and have the energy to put in.

1. who major in physics, NOT who are major in physic,
2. interpersonal relationships, which can be the key to success in society and every student should have some knowledge of it. NOT  interpersonal relationship, which is almost a key to success in the society that every student may have some knowledge about it.
3. learning various courses NOT learning a various courses

nicely written and I like your point
