Q1:
For the last five years the Dutch economy has grown faster than Britain, France, or Germany, with the unemployment rate having remained well below that of the other three countries.
D the economy of Britain, France, and Germany, with the unemployment rate that has remained
E the economies of Britain, France, and Germany, and the unemployment rate has remained
大家的结论是E。
这题我想了很久,这句话比较economy得时候,用一个国家的economy和多个国家的economies比较;比较失业率的时候,用的是rate和that of ~~~~比较,而不用those of,是不是说明,如果比较的时候,用名词就的按逻辑选择单复数,而用that of代替,无论本身指的是单数还是复数,都只能用that,不用those.如果本题不用that of,应该用rates of?
Leeon,
but I think even it is THOSE, the word THOSE does not necessarily refer to economies. If there is such a plural pronoun to ECONOMIES, the pronoun should be THEY, rather than THOSE. In no case can THOSE refer to a plural noun which has explicitly appeared.
