标题: Chemist Postdoc position
The Advanced Energy Department at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has
an opportunity for a Chemist Postdoctoral Fellow to prepare, characterize
and optimize electrode materials for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.
This position supports the research activities in the Electrochemistry Group
in developing the next-generation batteries for use in electric, hybrid-
electric, and plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles.

Essential
?    Synthesize electrode materials for rechargeable lithium batteries
. Grow crystal of various battery electrode materials in a controlled manner
.
?    Characterize materials using X-ray diffraction, scanning and
transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetric and calorimetric
analysis, visible-UV, infrared and Raman spectroscopy, as well as
synchrotron-related spectroscopic techniques.
?    Investigate and evaluate phase transformations, intercalation
phenomena, kinetic and thermodynamic properties of battery electrode
materials using electrochemical techniques such as cycling tests, cyclic
voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and
spectroelectrochemistry.
?    Establish relationships between material properties and electrode
performance.
?    repare manuscripts and reports. Make presentations at scientific
meetings and internal seminars.
?    Carry out collaborative research with research associates, post-
doctoral fellows, visiting scientists and students.

Qualifications
?    A recent Ph.D in chemistry, material sciences, or closely related
field.
?    Extensive experience in solid state chemistry and knowledge of
rechargeable battery chemistry.
?    Expertise in crystal growth using conventional methods (molten
salt and hydrothermal) and novel synthetic approaches. Extensive knowledge
in crystallography and electron microscopy.
?    Experience with standard electroanalytical techniques (CV,
chronoamperometry etc.) and a range of characterization instruments (XRD,
SEM, TEM, TGA, DSC, visible-UV, FTIR, Raman, and synchrotron-related
spectroscopic techniques).
?    Excellent oral and written communication skills.
?    The ability to work as an independent researcher with a high
level of scientific judgment and initiative, as well as to collaborate with
other researchers in a diverse team.

Notes
This is a full-time, one year appointment with the possibility of renewal
based upon performance, business needs and continuation of funding.
