There are growing fears that with last American soldier gone from Iraq, the country could descend into an all-out sectarian conflict.

今天在看bbc的新闻,这个句子的红色部分,为啥要用gone?起的是什么作用?

为什么我理解的是gone——死去的战士?反正是分词后置修饰名词。

gone from Iraq. dead from Iraq? No. dead IN Iraq.

Also the second half of the sentence fits the following meaning:
Since the American arm has left Iraq, no one could stop the sectarian violence in Iraq.
