非N轻拍,相比ABCD,我会选择你说的那个答案,但是,相比E,这个的确不好 【ing】形式在句尾,情况实在是复杂,三种情况都要考虑 不做伴随 然后考虑结果(这个结果状语我有时候会觉得好模糊呀,就像这里,看过正确选项,我知道修饰主语比较好,但是如果直接给我这个答案,我会觉得【1979年20%的人用可卡因,结果就是数量是1979年调查的两倍】也挺说的通啊,LZ能不能顺便帮我解下疑问,我这想法是不是有错误啊!)哈哈,也借LZ块地,求各位CDer指导下 最后考虑做修饰语,然后再根据逻辑判断不是就近修饰宾语,而是跳跃修饰主语 而E就很清晰,就是the number做同位语,而the number对应修饰的只能是主语作者: kiddinsh 时间: 2011-12-15 12:48
个人见解: 第一个例子主句中有rose,比较对象里有increase,所以比较的对象不是主句中的the number,而是整个句子(rose这个过程导致increase)和后面的比较,自然而然的使用ing形式表结果伴随 第二个例子明显是主句中的the number比较,不牵扯到整个句子,使用ing不好,所以E好作者: happyxian 时间: 2011-12-18 12:30

看prep笔记有两道题,搞不懂两道题分别选的doubling和twice,先贴上原题 The number of people flying first class on domestic flights rose sharply in 1990, doubling the increase of the previous year.
A. doubling the increase of B. doubling that of the increase in C. double as much as the increase of D. twice as many as the increase in E. twice as many as the increase of
这道题,我第一眼看到就是不是同位语,是要修饰整句的,所以把DE排了, 在ABC比较中,C不对,不是doing的格式,这种形态就是svo, verb xxx的结构所以是run on 而B的错误点在于,这个that根据句子能够指代的noun只能是the number,可是结构就变成doubling the number of increase 了
D. twice as many as the increase in E. twice as many as the increase of
这两个结构本身就是错的,因为increase是不可数名词,所以应该用as much as,而不是as many as
此外这个句子未划线的前半句是:the number of xxx,所以后面就不应该用doubling/twice as many/much as xxx的结构。因为the number/the amount这种词和as many/much as是redundant的
所以根据这个知识点C也是有问题的
此外increase这个词作为noun, increase in noun表示noun数量的增加,是指noun这个sth本身的增加。我想做过gmat的应该都遇到过这种increase in sth的结构。可是这里如果用increase in the previous year,这个noun变成the previsou year就有问题了,去年本身没有increase,如果要表达去年这个时间状态应该用increase of the previous year。我记得有道比较级的题目就是这么表达的。如:in its return of 1910-1911作者: 清飞扬 时间: 2012-2-7 18:24

这道题,根据同位语的使用原则,twice应该是指代前置名词,可是这里前置名词是1979,不对。所以我第一时间是把twice结构的CDE排了,B本身就不对,没有svo, to do sth的结构存在。就看A,发现有个those,可是前半句those的指代有问题,能够指代的复数,表示数量的,只能是:20 percent ofyoung adults 。但是20 percent ofyoung adults reported in the 1977 survey语义有问题。所以我发现这个those不能够存在

唉,其实找个英英词典,查double作为及物动词的两种含义/用法,就明白了
以下这种是比较tricky的:
E.G. The baby doubled its weight during the past year.
2、在GMAT里面考twice的常见用法: a.twice as much as sth.。这个sth.一定是不可数的。即便是代词,他也一定要指示不可数名词。 b.twice as many as sth.。这个sth.一定是可数的。代词指代也一定是可数的。 c.twice + n.。我查了一下Oxford Adv,上面写道:double in quantity,rate,etc。这里的n.可以是题目中的the number,或者是the size,rate这些东西。这里twice的用法是跟double一样的。
3、GMAT里面double的常见用法: a.double作v.,后面直接加名词或者名词性代词。 b.double作adj.,有两个意思,一个是两倍,一个是双重。记得做过有一道题就是double作adj.,因为可能会让人误认为是双重的意思给排了。 c.double没有 double as much/many as 的用法。
结果状语,一定要和主句有一种导致的意味。而且Ving的逻辑主语一定applies to主句主语。像LZ贴的第一句: The number of people flying first class on domestic flights rose sharply in 1990, doubling the increase of the previous year.
同位语,一般是对comma前面最近词的修饰或者是补充说明,而且一般都是object。就像第二题。 According to surveys by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, about 20 percent ofyoung adults used cocaine in 1979,twice the number reported in the 1977 survey.(这句话的twice the number reported in the 1977 survey就是一个同位语)
但其实究竟是Ving,还是同位语比较好,很难分辨,甚至我觉得一定要有语境才能说那个更合适。GMAC应该也不会让你这样分辨,所以当这两个同时出现的时候一定是有什么别的绝对性错误,比如twice as much as后面接了一个可数名词什么的。
关于increase要注意一下,因为它常常和twice还有double一起考。飞扬上面也说的蛮清楚了,increase一定是不可数的,其次就是看increase in后面补全的名词能不能make sense了~作者: babybearmm 时间: 2012-2-7 20:38
