我感觉as如果作为时间状语的引导词不对
因为obtain是及物动词 如果要用as 引导的话 要用as的话 要用as they obtained information
而这里obtain后没有东西 所以as不能用 只能that或省略

the same as中的as 引导的是后面的句子和前面的句子的动作做比较，两者相似。换成that后变成that从句修饰book，没有了前后动作的比较，而且我觉得换成that后面就不能用do，应该还原成read。

i think in this case the information they had obtained is better than information as they obtained ,for when the lawyer suspected the police ,the imformation had been obtained.
i find ets especially LIKE TO test such structure as:suspect sb of doing x and of doing y,a lot of cased can prove this,就是在一个句子出现N个动词,让你弄不清哪个和哪个对称.

先总结一下such as和such ... as ...。
1. such as是举例，for example的意思.
2. such adj. + n. as ...，是象...一样adj.的意思，比如such extraordinary fees as they do today, 意思是象现在一样昂贵的收费。这里有对形容词作比较的含义。
3. such + n. as ..., 根据longman, used to refer only to people or things of a particular group or kind, 意思是特指一群事物或人。我感觉这里有点象限定性定语从句的作用，比如Such individuals who take up this role often find life frustrating, 意思说还有individual没有take up this role.
考察这道题目，such information as they obtained, 没有形容词，不符合第2种，所以不是象什么什么一样的意思。第3种情况可以说的通，但是我觉得没有第一种说法合理。(所以我前面说是举例的意思，这道题没有举例的意思。)
回到such as的用法，我觉得以上3种里的as都是和such有关的。

我的意思不是as引导了一个限定性定语从句，实际上我前面讨论的不是as的用法，而是such as的用法。
我的意思是说such + n. + as是特指一群事物或人，而不是as引导了一个定语从句修饰这个名词。
呵呵，我没看出来这两种说法有什么不一样，说到底不还是refer了一群人吗？另外，我觉得这里的"如"不是as的含义，而是such的含义。
