标题: og 28 - 两个问题

28. The rise in the Commerce Department's index of leading economic indicators suggest that the economy should continue its expansion into the coming months. but that the mixed performance of the index's indi­vidual components indicates that economic growth will proceed at a more moderate pace than in the first quarter of this year.




(A)  suggest that the economy should continue its expansion into the coming months, but that



(B)  suggest that the economy is to continue expansion in the coming months, but



(C)  suggests that the economy will continue its expanding in the coming months, but that



(D)  suggests that the economy is continuing to expand into the coming months, but that


(E)   suggests that the economy will continue to expand in the coming months, but



答案B. No doubt. My questions are:



1) What's the difference between "continue to do" and "continue doing"? And when should we use "be continuing". Is it not good to use "be continuing doing sth.?



2) continue the expansion and continue to expand, what's the difference?

哈哈，看到你说的答案，我突然双目失明，大脑阻塞，当场晕倒，醒来的时候，第一句话问自己，是不是刚才睡了太久，以至脑子糊涂，MM，答案是E；

continue to do强调做A后，继续不停地做B；侧重于从头开始；

continue doing强调A做了一半，然后继续不停地做A；侧重于从中间继续；

但是，上述的区别似乎不是ETS的考点；

1－be continuing我认为是个不必要的表达，因为continue可以表达正在进行，不必对continue再进行词化；

2－continue the expansion和contine to expand我认为意思上没有什么区别，但是后者应该更会受ETS的青睐，因为强调动作。

Seems I was "双目失明，大脑阻塞" at that time. You know what, I ofen make such stupid mistake- 明明自己选的是E, 写出来确实B. 不过E 和B长的还是很像的嘛。 搜里搜里啊

不同意,根据薄冰语法


be to do命令,指示或表责任,语气比must,ought to 轻

Parallelism: ...suggests that... will continue... , ...indicates that...will proceed...

新东方对这两个问题的解释是这样的

continue表示继续，那就是现在在进行并要持续到将来，所以一旦使用了进行时，时态就和单词本身的含义语意重复

而另外关于expansion的问题，有这么个优先规则：

动词>形容词>抽象名词>分词动名词

当然，以上2点都不是OG里的解释，不过是新东方总结出来的所谓规律

个人认为关键还是平行结构的问题

在ETS眼里，用v.表示动作会比用n.表示来得好。

所以expand优于expansion。
