Geologists believe that the Bering land bridge, over which human beings are thought to have first entered the Americas, disappeared about 14,000 years ago when massive glaciers melted and caused thae sea level to rise several hundred feet worldwide.

(C)were thought at first to enter

(D)are thought of as first entering

(E)were thought to first enter

key is A, 求教A, E 那不同???

感觉这里first是代名词, 指Bering land bridge.

sth be thought sth to do ...
