Loggerhead turtles live and breed in distinct groups, of which some are in the Pacific Ocean and some are in the Atlantic. New evidence suggests that juvenile Pacific loggerheads that feed near the Baja Peninsula hatch in Japanese waters 10,000 kilometers away. Ninety-five percent of the DNA samples taken from the Baja turtles match those taken from turtles at the Japanese nesting sites.
Which one of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the reasoning above?
(A) Nesting sites of loggerhead turtles have been found the Pacific coast of North America Several thousand kilometers north of the Baja peninsula.
(B) The distance between nesting sites and feeding sites of Atlantic loggerhead turtles is less than 5,000 kilometers.
(C) Loggerhead hatchlings in Japanese waters have been declining in number for the last decade while the number of nesting sites near the Baja peninsula has remained constant.
(D) Ninety-five percent of the DNA samples taken from the Baja turtles match those taken from Atlantic loggerhead turtles.
(E) Commercial aquariums have been successfully breeding Atlantic loggerheads with Pacific loggerheads for the last five years.

Twelve years ago and again five years ago, there were extended periods when the Darfir Republic's currency, the pundra, was weak: its value was unusually low relative to the world's most stable currencies. Both times a weak pundra made Darfir's manufactured products a bargain on world markets, and Darfir's exports were up substantially. Now some politicians are saying that, in order to cause another similarly sized increase in exports, the government should allow the pundra to become weak again.
Which of the following, if true, provides the government with the strongest grounds to doubt that the politicians' recommendation, if followed, will achieve its aim?
(A) Several of the politicians now recommending that the pundra be allowed to become weak made that same recommendation before each of the last two periods of currency weakness.
(B) After several decades of operating well below peak capacity, Darfir's manufacturing sector is now operating at near-peak levels.
(C) The economy of a country experiencing a rise in exports will become healthier only if the country's currency is strong or the rise in exports is significant.
(D) Those countries whose manufactured products compete with Darfir's on the world market all currently have stable currencies.
(E) A sharp improvement in the efficiency of Darfir's manufacturing plants would make Darfir's products a bargain on world markets even without any weakening of the pundra relative to other currencies.

The population of Megacity, a sprawling metropolis in Remsland, has grown at a fairly steady rate for over a century. A hundred years ago, poor sanitation in the city caused high mortality rates among the city's inhabitants, and what fueled the population increase was immigration from rural villages. This immigration has continued and even increased. Moreover, in recent decades, city sanitation has improved enormously. Yet the city's population growth has not significantly accelerated.
Which of the following, if true, most helps to explain why the city's population growth rate has not changed?
(A) Mortality rates that were associated with poor sanitation in Megacity a hundred years ago were orders of magnitude higher than are mortality rates associated with vehicular traffic, which is currently a major cause of death in the city.
(B) For several decades, Megacity, as distinct from the countryside, has had a steadily declining birth rate.
(C) Cities smaller than Megacity have also experienced sustained population growth.
(D) The great majority of immigrants to Remsland settle in Megacity, at least initially.
(E) Megacity has long offered better employment prospects than most rural areas.

Plant scientists have used genetic engineering on seeds to produce crop plants that are highly resistant to insect damage. Unfortunately, the seeds themselves are quite expensive, and the plants require more fertilizer and water to grow well than normal ones. Thus, for most farmers the savings on pesticides would not compensate for the higher seed costs and the cost of additional fertilizer. However, since consumer demand for grains, fruits, and vegetables grown without the use of pesticides continues to rise, the use of genetically engineered seeds of this kind is likely to become widespread.
In the argument given, the two portions in boldface play which of the following roles?
(A) The first supplies a context for the argument; the second is the argument's main conclusion.
(B) The first introduces a development that the argument predicts will have a certain outcome; the second is a state of affairs that the argument denies will be part of that outcome.
(C) The first presents a development that the argument predicts will have a certain outcome; the second acknowledges a consideration that weighs against that prediction.
(D) The first provides evidence to support a prediction that the argument seeks to defend; the second is that prediction.
(E) The first and the second each provide evidence to support the argument's main conclusion.

First-time computer buyers buying PXC home computers typically buy models that cost much less and have a smaller profit margin per computer than do PXC computers bought by people replacing their computers with more powerful models. Last year PXC's profits from computer sales were substantially higher than the previous year, although about the same number of PXC computers were sold and the prices and profit margins for each computer model that PXC sells remained unchanged.
If the statements above are true, which of the following is most strongly supported by them?
(A) PXC's competitors raised the prices on their computers last year, making PXC computers more attractive to first-time computer buyers.
(B) The number of people buying PXC computers who also bought PXC computer-related products, such as printers, was larger last year than the previous year.
(C) Among computer buyers who bought a PXC computer to replace their existing computer, the proportion who were replacing a computer made by a competitor of PXC was greater last year than the previous year.
(D) The proportion of PXC computers bought by first-time computer buyers was smaller last year than the previous year.
(E) PXC's production costs for its computers were lower last year than they had been the previous year.

1. 虽然做对了,但是感觉不好,云里雾里的
LT live and breed in distinct groups: some are in PO and some are in A
Juvenile PO LT feed near B hatch in J waters 10,000 km away
95% of DNA of B turtles match DNA of J turtles
I guess: 95% is insufficient, maybe 98% of the DNA samples taken from the B turtles match those taken from A LT
(A) Nesting sites of loggerhead turtles have been found the Pacific coast of North America several thousand kilometers north of the Baja peninsula.
Irrelevant
(B) The distance between nesting sites and feeding sites of Atlantic loggerhead turtles is less than 5,000 kilometers.
Useless comparison
(C) Loggerhead hatchlings in Japanese waters have been declining in number for the last decade while the number of nesting sites near the Baja peninsula has remained constant.
This choice confused me at the first sight, but hatchlings in J have been declining in number & nesting sites near B has remained constant
(D) Ninety-five percent of the DNA samples taken from the Baja turtles match those taken from Atlantic loggerhead turtles.
Correct, Atlantic LT live far away from the Baja Peninsula, but the similarity of DNA is also 95%
(E) Commercial aquariums have been successfully breeding Atlantic loggerheads with Pacific loggerheads for the last five years.
Irrelevant
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. 12 years ago and 5 years ago, when D’s currency----the pundra---- was weak, the D’s exports were up substantially.
CONCLUSION: In order to gain another similarity size increase in exports, the government should allow pundra to become weak again.
I guess: think about the disadvantages; today is quite different from those days
(A) Several of the politicians now recommending that the pundra be allowed to become weak made that same recommendation before each of the last two periods of currency weakness.
I think this choice may support the argument.
(B) After several decades of operating well below peak capacity, Darfir's manufacturing sector is now operating at near-peak levels.
Correct, the manufacturing sector is at peak, even though the government weak the currency, there is no more extra increase.
(C) The economy of a country experiencing a rise in exports will become healthier only if the country's currency is strong or the rise in exports is significant.
Irrelevant, because we do not talk about the health of economy
(D) Those countries whose manufactured products compete with Darfir's on the world market all currently have stable currencies.
Irrelevant comparison
(E) A sharp improvement in the efficiency of Darfir's manufacturing plants would make Darfir's products a bargain on world markets even without any weakening of the pundra relative to other currencies.
Irrelevant, because we still don’t know what would happen, if the government weak the currency.

3.The population of has grown at a fairly steady rate for over a century.
100 years ago, poor sanitation in the city cause high mortality rates, and immigration from rural villages fueled the population increase
The immigration has continue and city sanitation has improved
BUT the city’s population has not increased significantly
I guess: Other reasons now cause high mortality rates(A) Mortality rates that were associated with poor sanitation in Megacity a hundred years ago were orders of magnitude higher than are mortality rates associated with vehicular traffic, which is currently a major cause of death in the city.
This choice confused me at the first sight, but we should pay attention to the word ‘currently’, however, in the original text, it is ‘recent decades’
(B) For several decades, Megacity, as distinct from the countryside, has had a steadily declining birth rate.
Correct
(C) Cities smaller than Megacity have also experienced sustained population growth.
Cannot explain
(D) The great majority of immigrants to Remsland settle in Megacity, at least initially.
Irrelevant
(E) Megacity has long offered better employment prospects than most rural areas.
Irrelevant to the employment prospects, and this choice may give more confusion why the population does not increase significantly.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Scientists have produced crop plants that are resistant to insect damage.
BUT these plants require more fertilizer and water----evidence of a conclusion, which this argument disproves.
Hence these plants cannot save money for farmers
BUT since consumer demand for pesticides-free crops is rising, the use of these seeds is likely to become widespread.----Conclusion
Correct
(D) The first provides evidence to support a prediction that the argument seeks to defend; the second is that prediction.
(E) The first and the second each provide evidence to support the argument's main conclusion.

5. Background: First-time computer buyers usually buy models that cost less and have a smaller profit margin than computers bought by people replacing their computers with more powerful models.
Last year PXC’s computer sales were higher than the previous year.
Although same number of computer were sold and prices and profit margins for each computer model that PXC sells remained unchanged.
I GUESS: this year more customers of PXC is people who want to replace their computers.
(A) PXC's competitors raised the prices on their computers last year, making PXC computers more attractive to first-time computer buyers.
If this is true, then the number of computers sole by PXC last year should increase.
(B) The number of people buying PXC computers who also bought PXC computer-related products, such as printers, was larger last year than the previous year.
Here we talk about the profits from computer sales
(C) Among computer buyers who bought a PXC computer to replace their existing computer, the proportion who were replacing a computer made by a competitor of PXC was greater last year than the previous year.
We don’t know the total number of people who by PXC computer to replace their computers
(D) The proportion of PXC computers bought by first-time computer buyers was smaller last year than the previous year.
Correct, because the total number of computer sold by PXC remained unchanged.
(E) PXC's production costs for its computers were lower last year than they had been the previous year.
The price and profit margin do not change

(E) Commercial aquariums have been successfully breeding Atlantic loggerheads with Pacific loggerheads for the last five years. 无关
逻辑链:
2. weaken 50s
P:The low value of B makes the country’s products a bargain in world market and makes the manufacture industry developed. To develop the manufacture industry further,
C: The government should make the B low value.
Pre: World market is different, low value of currency can not promote industry development.
E,预测偏离了,容易选成B,这道题需要去看看解析。
3. support 50s
P: City X had a steady rate in population growth even it had a high mortality rate, because immigrations increased.
The sanitation has improved and the immigrations even increased faster.
C: The population is not increased high.
Pre:1. People from City X settle in other city increases sharply.
2. Because of some other reasons, the mortality doesn’t change.
A ,预测的2
4. Method in reasoning 60s
背景: new genetic crops ——他的优点和缺点——转折,需求很大——这种genetic crops能普及
C: 不知道对不对 A有些像,但是不够准确
5. Must be true 44s
P: Selling a PXC have a lower profit than replacing a old one for a new model.
Selling One< replacing One ————profit
Profit last year  rofit this year (much higher)
Selling consistent
Replacing vary

background information:some kind of turtle live and breed in distinct groups, some in Pacific Ocean, some in the Atlantic.
premise:95% of DNA samples in Baja match those of turtles in Japanese nesting sites
conclusion:Baja turtles hatch in Japanese waters 10000 km away
(A) Nesting sites of loggerhead turtles have been found the Pacific coast of North America Several thousand kilometers north of the Baja peninsula.——irrelevant
(B) The distance between nesting sites and feeding sites of Atlantic loggerhead turtles is less than 5,000 kilometers.——irrelevant about Atlantic loggerhead
(C) Loggerhead hatchlings in Japanese waters have been declining in number for the last decade while the number of nesting sites near the Baja peninsula has remained constant.——irrelevant
(D) Ninety-five percent of the DNA samples taken from the Baja turtles match those taken from Atlantic loggerhead turtles.——correct
(E) Commercial aquariums have been successfully breeding Atlantic loggerheads with Pacific loggerheads for the last five years. ——irrelevant
I choose D because I think that it is highly possible that Atlantic loggerheads hatch in Japanese waters. These kinds of turtles all match 95% of DNA samples with each other. So this choice weakens the argument.

1、Background: loggerhead turtles live and breed in the Pacific Ocean and Atlantic. There is new evidence shows that Pacific loggerheads hatch in Japanese waters.
Premise: 95% of the DNA samples taken from the Baja turtles match those taken from turtles at the Japanese nesting sites.
Prephrase: the turtles nesting in Japan and Baja turtles are the offspring of the same ancestor.
D
A: irrelevant
B: it is about Baja turtles, not Atlantic loggerhead turtles
C: nesting sites, irrelevant
D: if Baja turtles share a similarity of 95% DNA of other kind of turtles, it then can not be proved that Baja turtles hatch in Japanese water.
E: irrelevant
2、Background: Darfir’s weak currency made its exports up substantially.
Premise: in order to cause another similarly sized increase in exports, the government should allow the currency become weak again.
Prephrase: the revenue of exports cannot cover the cost.
B
A: the answer supports the politician’s argument.
B: Darfir’s manufacturing sector is now operating at near-peak levels, does this mean that there is no need to enlarge exports by weakening currency?
C: the answer supports the argument in a certain extent.
D: irrelevant
E: this is an assumption, not a fact, it could not be used as the base to doubt the argument.
3、Background: a hundred years ago, it was the immigration from rural villages that fueled the Megacity’s population which suffered from high mortality rates due to the poor sanitation.
Prephrase: in the period when city’s sanitation has improved enormously, the rural villages’ sanitation does, either. Many inhabitants in city immigrate to rural villages.
B
A: although traffic accident is a major cause of death in the city, if the number of accidents is low, it cannot block the increase of population
B: correct, a steadily declining birth rate results in a slow increase of population
C: irrelevant
D: irrelevant
E: irrelevant
4、Background: new seeds which resistant to insect damage exist. Because of the high price, most farmers do not choose them. However, since consumers’ demand of non-pesticided plants continues to rise, the new seeds are widespread.
C
5、Background: the profit gotten from first-time computer buyers is less than that from PXC computer users.
Premise: last year, PXC’s profit increased impressively, while the number of computers sold and the prices and profit margins remained unchanged.
Prephrase: last year, more PXC computers users bought new models to replace the old one.
D
A: the prices are unchanged
B: the profits from computers sale are different from those from the printers sale
C: what is the proportion is very small?
D: the number of sold computers is fixed, when the number of first buyers decreases, the revenue increases.
E: if the cost changes, the profit margin will change.

(E) Commercial aquariums have been successfully breeding Atlantic loggerheads with Pacific loggerheads for the last five years.

pundra become weak--->increase in exports
C应该是B
(E) A sharp improvement in the efficiency of Darfir's manufacturing plants would make Darfir's products a bargain on world markets even without any weakening

Twelve years ago and again five years ago, there were extended periods when the Darfir Republic's currency, the pundra, was weak: its value was unusually low relative to the world's most stable currencies. Both times a weak pundra made Darfir's manufactured products a bargain on world markets, and Darfir's exports were up substantially. Now some politicians are saying that, in order to cause another similarly sized increase in exports, the government should allow the pundra to become weak again.
Which of the following, if true, provides the government with the strongest grounds to doubt that the politicians' recommendation, if followed, will achieve its aim?
(B) After several decades of operating well below peak capacity, Darfir's manufacturing sector is now operating at near-peak levels.
For answer B: If the manufacturing is already operating at peak level, with meaning that the requirement of the quantitative of exports product is equal or higher than the supplement ability of the manufacture, so the currency devaluation will not increase the exports.
(E) A sharp improvement in the efficiency of Darfir's manufacturing plants would make Darfir's products a bargain on world markets even without any weakening of the pundra relative to other currencies.
For answer E: yes, although this is another cause for same effect, but it doesn't mention what gonna happen by currency devaluation, so this option is irrelevant.

1.
The argument seems to demonstrate that since the DNA samples match highly between the Baja turtles and the Japanese turtles, the turtles that come from the Japanese nesting sites are those turtles that feed near the Baja Peninsula.
Which one of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the reasoning above?
(A) Nesting sites of loggerhead turtles have been found the Pacific coast of North America Several thousand kilometers north of the Baja peninsula.
Even though nesting sites have been found the Pacific coast, we cannot prove that the relationship between the Baja turtles and the turtles from the Pacific coast nesting sites.
(B) The distance between nesting sites and feeding sites of Atlantic loggerhead turtles is less than 5,000 kilometers.
The choice is only referred to Atlantic turtles, rather than Baja turtles or turtles from Japanese nesting sites.
(C) Loggerhead hatchlings in Japanese waters have been declining in number for the last decade while the number of nesting sites near the Baja peninsula has remained constant.
Although we can see the differences, there is no evidence supported to weaken the argument.
Even though the number of hatchlings is declined, the number of nesting sites would remain constant, albeit with fewer turtles at each. Because of this possibility, the answer does not undermine the argument.
(D) Ninety-five percent of the DNA samples taken from the Baja turtles match those taken from Atlantic loggerhead turtles.
Since the similarity situation happens between Baja turtles and Atlantic turtles, the choice can weaken the argument. We should know that Japan is in the Pacific Ocean. BA
(E) Commercial aquariums have been successfully breeding Atlantic loggerheads with Pacific loggerheads for the last five years.
From this choice, we know nothing about the Baja turtles.

The argument seems to involve in the line of reasoning that in the future, the situation will remain unchanged just as it did in the history. However, it is very possible that the trend will change or even reverse, severely weakening the argument. Admittedly, the argument would be even weaker each day as time goes by.
Which of the following, if true, provides the government with the strongest grounds to doubt that the politicians' recommendation, if followed, will achieve its aim?
(A) Several of the politicians now recommending that the pundra be allowed to become weak made that same recommendation before each of the last two periods of currency weakness.
What these politicians recommended before has nothing to do with the current situation.
(B) After several decades of operating well below peak capacity, Darfir's manufacturing sector is now operating at near-peak levels.
Since the current condition of Darfir’s manufacturing sector is changed, the fact severely weakens the argument. BA
(C) The economy of a country experiencing a rise in exports will become healthier only if the country's currency is strong or the rise in exports is significant.
Shell Game: the argument talks about the rise in exports, rather than the health of the economy of a country.
(D) Those countries whose manufactured products compete with Darfir's on the world market all currently have stable currencies.
Even though it reveals that other countries’ situation, we do not know what will happen to Darfir.
(E) A sharp improvement in the efficiency of Darfir's manufacturing plants would make Darfir's products a bargain on world markets even without any weakening of the pundra relative to other currencies.
The choice seems very attractive at first glance, but the argument talks about these politicians’ recommendation that the country makes the pundra weak again, rather than without any weakening of the pundra relative to other currencies.

The choice seems valid at first glance, but a more thorough analysis reveals that it is highly questionable. Because mortality rates caused by poor sanitation are higher than mortality rates caused by vehicular traffic, we should think about the now condition of population of Megacity would significantly accelerate.
(B) For several decades, Megacity, as distinct from the countryside, has had a steadily declining birth rate.
By introducing the decline in the birth rate, the choice successfully reconciles the contradiction. BA
(C) Cities smaller than Megacity have also experienced sustained population growth.
There is no relationship with the cities smaller than Megacity.
(D) The great majority of immigrants to Remsland settle in Megacity, at least initially.
Actually, the choice stimulates the contradiction.
(E) Megacity has long offered better employment prospects than most rural areas.
The same to D.

The second is the main conclusion. Actually, the first is contradictory to the second.
(B) The first introduces a development that the argument predicts will have a certain outcome; the second is a state of affairs that the argument denies will be part of that outcome.
(C) The first presents a development that the argument predicts will have a certain outcome; the second acknowledges a consideration that weighs against that prediction.
The second is a prediction that weighs against the prediction drawn from the first. BA

The argument has showed that the same number of PXC computers was sold and the prices and profit margins for each computer model remained unchanged.
(B) The number of people buying PXC computers who also bought PXC computer-related products, such as printers, was larger last year than the previous year.
Although the choice seems valid at first glance, the argument talks nothing about PXC computer-related products, such as printers.
(C) Among computer buyers who bought a PXC computer to replace their existing computer, the proportion of buyers who were replacing a computer made by a competitor of PXC was greater last year than the previous year.
Actually, the choice weakens the argument. If PXC computer buyers replaced computers made by a competitor of PXC, the profit of PXC would decrease.
(D) The proportion of PXC computers bought by first-time computer buyers was smaller last year than the previous year.
Since the proportion of PXC computers bought by first-time computer buyers was smaller, the proportion of PXC computers bought by people replacing their computers with more powerful models was greater last year than the previous year. Please notice that the argument only talks about two kinds of buyers of PXC computers.BA
(E) PXC's production costs for its computers were lower last year than they had been the previous year.

Irrelevant
(B) After several decades of operating well below peak capacity, Darfir's manufacturing sector is now operating at near-peak levels.
(C) The economy of a country experiencing a rise in exports will become healthier only if the country's currency is strong or the rise in exports is significant. Irrelevant
(D) Those countries whose manufactured products compete with Darfir's on the world market all currently have stable currencies. Irrelevant
(E) A sharp improvement in the efficiency of Darfir's manufacturing plants would make Darfir's products a bargain on world markets even without any weakening of the pundra relative to other currencies. irrevelant
Analysis
Why the correct answer is B instead of E
Look carefully at E, the word “would” means hypothesis instead of reality. If a sharp improvement does happen, then Darfir’s products can be a bargain on world markets without any weakening of the pundra relative to other currencies.
so "would" make option D may happen, so D is less effective at weakening the proposal.

C: juvenile Pacific loggerheads that feed near the Baja Peninsula hatch in Japanese waters 10,000 kilometers away
Weaken the reasoning: finding≠actual, match≠hatch
答案:D
(A) Nesting sites of loggerhead turtles have been found the Pacific coast of North America Several thousand kilometers north of the Baja peninsula.-------other nesting sides do not affect the Japanese nesting sides, irrelevant
(B) The distance between nesting sites and feeding sites of Atlantic loggerhead turtles is less than 5,000 kilometers.---------------distance is not relevant
(C) Loggerhead hatchlings in Japanese waters have been declining in number for the last decade while the number of nesting sites near the Baja peninsula has remained constant.------how the change does not affect the truth
(D) Ninety-five percent of the DNA samples taken from the Baja turtles match those taken from Atlantic loggerhead turtles.-------------CORRECT. the gene match those Atlantic turtles does not means Baja turtles must lay their eggs in Japan. The match is insufficient to give birth to hatch
(E) Commercial aquariums have been successfully breeding Atlantic loggerheads with Pacific loggerheads for the last five years.------commercial aquariums' success does not mean the natural truth.

Doubt the recommendation: weak currency now cannot guarantee export increas
答案:B

(B) After several decades of operating well below peak capacity, Darfir's manufacturing sector is now operating at near-peak levels.-------------CORRECT. means cannot produce any more goods to export. even with lower currency, the export will not increase
(C) The economy of a country experiencing a rise in exports will become healthier only if the country's currency is strong or the rise in exports is significant.---------the country does not care about the economy healthy, just the export increase
(D) Those countries whose manufactured products compete with Darfir's on the world market all currently have stable currencies.---------other countries' stable currency will guarantee the bargain of exports, SUPPORT
(E) A sharp improvement in the efficiency of Darfir's manufacturing plants would make Darfir's products a bargain on world markets even without any weakening of the pundra relative to other currencies.--------the improvement of efficiency is not discussed in the question.

(A) Mortality rates that were associated with poor sanitation in Megacity a hundred years ago were orders of magnitude higher than are mortality rates associated with vehicular traffic, which is currently a major cause of death in the city.-------------what's the mortality associated with is not the case
(B) For several decades, Megacity, as distinct from the countryside, has had a steadily declining birth rate.-------------CORRECT. birth rate↓but death rate↓, means the natural population growth maybe balanced, thus the whole population growth rate may be negative. it is the reason why the whole population not significantly accelerated
(C) Cities smaller than Megacity have also experienced sustained population growth.--------other city's experience is not sufficient to explain the M.
(D) The great majority of immigrants to Remsland settle in Megacity, at least initially.--------settle means more population, but the truth is not more population. thus not explain but exaggerate.
(E) Megacity has long offered better employment prospects than most rural areas.--------better employment should attract more immigrates and population should increase more.

profit margin: first buyer< replace
P: last year, same number computer, same price, same profit margin
C: profit higher
Support: second buyer increase in proportion
答案:D
(A) PXC's competitors raised the prices on their computers last year, making PXC computers more attractive to first-time computer buyers.------------because the amount of computers sales is the same, thus more attractive≠more buying, cannot explain the higher profit
(B) The number of people buying PXC computers who also bought PXC computer-related products, such as printers, was larger last year than the previous year.---------------other products' profits do not include in the computer profit, thus irrelevant
(C) Among computer buyers who bought a PXC computer to replace their existing computer, the proportion who were replacing a computer made by a competitor of PXC was greater last year than the previous year.---------------means more customers are attracted, but this does not guarantee higher profit
(D) The proportion of PXC computers bought by first-time computer buyers was smaller last year than the previous year.-------------CORRECT. even the number does not change, the profit margin increase, thus the profit becomes higher
(E) PXC's production costs for its computers were lower last year than they had been the previous year.--------profit margins do not change, thus means costs down, profits down

Time:1:17 像currency这种词总是不能很敏感很确定的反映出它的意思,想去联系实际去理解这种现象 耗时就长 需要加快。
P:Both times a weak currency made Darfir's manufactured products a bargain on world markets and exports were up substantially.
C:in order to cause another similarly sized increase in exports, the govern should allow the pundra to become weak again.
Pre:C-->E:pundra weak-->exports increase.
(A) Several of the politicians now recommending that the pundra be allowed to become weak made that same recommendation before each of the last two periods of currency weakness. 不能削弱 前两次的export确实增加了
(B) After several decades of operating well below peak capacity, Darfir's manufacturing sector is now operating at near-peak levels.无关 前两次也不知道manufactur的情况
(C) The economy of a country experiencing a rise in exports will become healthier only if the country's currency is strong or the rise in exports is significant. shell game 没有要考虑economy的情况 你说它的一个坏处,但是我要考虑的只是能不能增加exports
(D) Those countries whose manufactured products compete with Darfir's on the world market all currently have stable currencies. 从一定程度上看来增强了原建议。
(E) A sharp improvement in the efficiency of Darfir's manufacturing plants would make Darfir's products a bargain on world markets even without any weakening of the pundra relative to other currencies. 正解,给出他因削弱,还有其他情况可以导致export增加啊,不一定要靠pundra weak嘛
题目问话形式是 doubt that the politicians' recommendation will achieve its aim. 即要说明它不能achieve its aim。这么看来E也不好,因为似乎不能说明另外那种方法不能achieve。所以不确定选什么。
if the situation were to trigger much larger demand for the products, then the companies would also have to be able to make more of the products in order to satisfy that increased demand.
B means that they’re already making almost as much as they can today. In addition, they were not making anywhere near as much as they could 12 years ago and 5 years ago. That’s a change from the last two times when exports went up a lot. Does that change actually matter? If they can only make a little more product, will they be able to fill the demand if it goes up a lot? This one’s looking like it could weaken the situation.

immigration from rural villages fueled the population increase.

(B) For several decades, Megacity, as distinct from the countryside, has had a steadily declining birth rate. 正解 ,死亡率下降可以说明人口减少变慢 但是不能保证人口就会迅速增加,如果只有immigration一个增长因素,死亡率变不变化没有影响 则当然人口不会明显增加

(D) The great majority of immigrants to Remsland settle in Megacity, at least initially.不能解释

Background information: LT live in distinct groups.
Premise: LT hatch in Japanese waters & 95% DNAmatch that
Conclusion: LT live in Japanese waters
Weaken: the statistics of 95% can’t say anything./other places also as same as or even larger than 95% DNA match.

Twelve years agoand again five years ago, there were extended periods when the DarfirRepublic's currency, the pundra, was weak: its value was unusually low relative to the world's most stable currencies. Both times a weak pundra made Darfir'smanufactured products a bargain on world markets, and Darfir's exports were upsubstantially. Now some politicians aresaying that, in order to cause another similarly sized increase in exports, thegovernment should allow the pundra to become weak again.
Background: the currency of D country was weaken twice and during these period itsexport went well.
Premise: the weaken currency results in the boom export.
Conclusion: In order to cause another similar increasein export, the government should allow its currency to become weaken again.
Weaken: 1、there areother factors that cause such an increase. And the weaken currency is an accidentalevent
2、there is a dramatic change over theglobal economical environment, and the weaken currency is not useful any more.
3、there is no room for manufacture todevelop.
Which of thefollowing, if true, provides the government with the strongest grounds to doubtthat the politicians' recommendation, if followed, will achieve its aim?
(A) Several ofthe politicians now recommending that the pundra be allowed to become weak madethat same recommendation before each of the last two periods of currencyweakness. Strengthen
(B) After several decades ofoperating well below peak capacity, Darfir's manufacturing sector is nowoperating at near-peak levels. Correct, the manufacturing sector is at peak, even though the government weak thecurrency, there is no more extra increase.
(C) The economyof a country experiencing a rise in exports will become healthier only if thecountry's currency is strong or the rise in exports is significant. Irrelevant, we do not talk aboutthe healthy economy.
(D) Thosecountries whose manufactured products compete with Darfir's on the world marketall currently have stable currencies. Irrelevantcomparison
(E) A sharpimprovement in the efficiency of Darfir's manufacturing plants would makeDarfir's products a bargain on world markets even without any weakening of thepundra relative to other currencies. We stilldon’t know what will happen if P is weaken.

The populationof Megacity, a sprawling metropolis in Remsland, has grown at a fairly steadyrate for over a century. A hundred yearsago, poor sanitation in the city caused high mortality rates among the city'sinhabitants, and what fueled the population increase was immigration from ruralvillages. This immigration has continuedand even increased. Moreover, in recentdecades, city sanitation has improved enormously. Yet the city's population growth has notsignificantly accelerated.
Which of thefollowing, if true, most helps to explain why the city's population growth ratehas not changed?
Background information: the mortality in the countryand immigration from rural areas compensated its declining people. And theimmigration people is continued to increase.
Premise: the total population will increaseeventually
Conclusion: the city’s population has not increased.
Explanation: there are other factors affect thepopulation, such as birth rate.
(A) Mortalityrates that were associated with poor sanitation in Megacity a hundred years agowere orders of magnitude higher than are mortality rates associated withvehicular traffic, which is currently a major cause of death in the city.Irrelevant, we do not talk about the cause oftraffic.
(B) For several decades,Megacity, as distinct from the countryside, has had a steadily declining birthrate. Correct.
(C) Citiessmaller than Megacity have also experienced sustained population growth. Irrelevant comparison & strengthen
(D) The greatmajority of immigrants to Remsland settle in Megacity, at least initially. Beyond scope
(E) Megacity haslong offered better employment prospects than most rural areas. We do not talk about employment.

Plant scientists have used genetic engineeringon seeds to produce crop plants that are highly resistant to insect damage. Unfortunately, the seeds themselves are quite expensive, and the plants require morefertilizer and water to grow well than normal ones. Thus, for most farmers thesavings on pesticides would not compensate for the higher seed costs and thecost of additional fertilizer. However, since consumer demand for grains, fruits, and vegetables grown without the useof pesticides continues to rise, the use of genetically engineered seeds ofthis kind is likely to become widespread.
In the argumentgiven, the two portions in boldface play which of the following roles?
(A) The firstsupplies a context for the argument; the second is the argument's mainconclusion.
(B) The firstintroduces a development that the argument predicts will have a certainoutcome; the second is a state ofaffairs that the argument denies will be part of that outcome.

(D) The firstprovides evidence to support a prediction that the argument seeks to defend;the second is that prediction.
(E) The firstand the second each provideevidence to support the argument's main conclusion.

First-timecomputer buyers buying PXC home computers typically buy models that cost muchless and have a smaller profit margin per computer than do PXC computers boughtby people replacing their computers with more powerful models. Last year PXC's profits from computersales were substantiallyhigher than the previous year, although about the same number of PXCcomputers were sold and the prices and profit margins for each computer modelthat PXC sells remained unchanged.
If thestatements above are true, which of the following is most strongly supported bythem?
Background: first-time computer buyers buy computer modelscheaper than those who want to replace the computer. 2、theprofit is larger than previous year. 3、there areno change in the number , the price, and the profit of computers.
(A) PXC's competitors raised the prices ontheir computers last year, making PXC computers more attractive to first-timecomputer buyers. We don’t know the outcome of the option:making PXC more attractive. If this is true, then the numberof computers sole by PXC last year should increase.
(B) The numberof people buying PXC computers who also bought PXC computer-related products, such as printers, was larger last year than the previous year. We don’ttalk about computer-related products. Also, they can buy it last year andprevious year, whatever.
(C) Amongcomputer buyers who bought a PXC computer to replace their existing computer, the proportion who were replacing a computer made by a competitor of PXC wasgreater last year than the previous year. We don’tknow the exact number.
(D) The proportion of PXCcomputers bought by first-time computer buyers was smaller last year than theprevious year. First-time users buylow-price models for PXC computers, while people who replace their computerswill buy high-price models. correct
(E) PXC'sproduction costs for its computers were lower last year than they had been theprevious year.

向各位大神提个问题
第28题我第一次做的时候选了d,但是再研究逻辑链的时候觉得d有点问题。
题目中说about the same number of PXC computers were sold and the prices and profit margins for each computer model that PXC sells remained unchanged,如果d选项正确,那么买smaller profit margin models 的少于powerful models(which assumed to be"higher profit margin models), 则在电脑售价相同,数量相同的情况下,总的profit margin会提高啊,d选项不就和原文给出的premise不相符了么?
求解!谢谢大神!

Background Information: a kind of turtles live and breed in different groups at somewhere in pacific & atlantic
Premise:95% DNA taken in Baja peninsula match those turtles at japanese nesting sites
Conclusion: juvenile turtles feed near Baja hatch in Japanese waters
(E) Commercial aquariums have been successfully breeding Atlantic loggerheads with Pacific loggerheads for the last five
选择:D Since the DNA can match turtles in Atlantic, we can also say juvenile turtles feed in Baja hatch in Atlantic. effectively weaken the conclusion above

Background Information: there are 2 period in Darfir Republic's history when the currency was weak, which led to the increase of Darfir's exports.
Premise: aim at increasing the exports again
conclusion: the government should allow the currency to become weak again.
猜想:1)两短历史时期的特殊条件;2)今时不同往日,降低汇率可能并不会提高出口;3)现在的出口量已经很高,无法再高了
(B) After several decades of operating well below peak capacity, Darfir's manufacturing sector is now operating at near-peak levels.
选项:B this answer shows that Darfir cannot manufacture more products for export, so it can not achieve the aim hoping weak currency can increase exports.
26.

premise: today, the sanitation has been improved and immigration is still incresing
conclusion: In recent decades, the city's population has not significantly accelerated
猜想:不仅有流入和本地增长,可能因为经济原因或政策,很多本地人口外流
(B) For several decades, Megacity, as distinct from the countryside, has had a steadily declining birth rate.
选项:B this is the only choice which can explain why the population stay steadily.
27.
background information: farmers refused to use seeds that are improved to survive without pesticides
because they require higher cost.
premise: but theses days, people prefer grains, fruits, and vegetables grown without the use of pesticides
conclusion: therefore, more farmers will be willing to use improved seeds
1 boldface: Unfortunately, the seeds themselves are quite expensive, and the plants require more fertilizer and water to grow well than normal ones. [ explanation for not using those expensive seeds ]
2 boldface: However, since consumer demand for grains, fruits, and vegetables grown without the use of pesticides continues to rise, the use of genetically engineered seeds of this kind is likely to become widespread. [ conclusion ]
(A) The first supplies a context for the argument; the second is the argument's main conclusion.
选项:A the first boldface is part of the background information, the second boldface is what this context what to illustrate
正确答案:C
(C) The first presents a development that the argument predicts will have a certain outcome; the second acknowledges a consideration that weighs against that prediction.
选错原因:忽略了文中非常重要的一句话“ Thus, for most farmers the savings on pesticides would not compensate for the higher seed costs and the cost of additional fertilizer.”,这是第一个boldface得出的预测,但是后面另一个原因推翻了这个预测,给出了相反的预测。所以答案应该是C。
A选项错误的原因,第一个boldface支持的prediction并不是conclusion的argument

选项:B
正确选项:D
(D) The proportion of PXC computers bought by first-time computer buyers was smaller last year than the previous year.

now, SPECIFY what a correct answer needs to do:
A correct answer must work AGAINST population growth.虽然这里是explain题,但是可以用weaken的思路!!
basically, there are only three possibilities in the whole universe:
1/ More people are leaving (the passage mentions only immigration, not emigration);
2/ Not as many people are being born;
3/ More people are dying for some NEW reason.
(it's not ALWAYS possible to come up with such exact specifications... but, IF YOU CAN, you always should!)
once you have this, you can take one glance at choice A and say 'hmm, that's something that works TOWARD population growth.'
