标题: 关于曼哈顿第六章的一个问题
在讲到修饰的时候,书上说一定要分清[Adjective + Adjective +Noun]和[Adverb +Adjective + Noun]两种形式
然后讲到了这个例子

wrong:Max's grandmother is his SUPPOSED Irish ancestor.
right:Max's grandmother is his SUPPOSEDLYIrish ancestor.

前面还有这个例子
wrong:James Joyce is Max's SUPPOSEDLY Irish ancestor.
right:James Joyce is Max's SUPPOSED Irish ancestor.

wrong:James Joyce is Max's SUPPOSEDLY Irish ancestor.
right:James Joyce is Max's SUPPOSED Irish ancestor.
→ 结合上面的公式,不能确定JJ是不是ancestor,但jj一定是irish,所以supposed修饰限定ancestor,irish修饰限定ancestor。

wrong:Max's grandmother is his SUPPOSED Irish ancestor.
right:Max's grandmother is his SUPPOSEDLYIrish ancestor
→不能确定grandma是不是irish,但grandma一定是Max的ancestor,所以supposedly修饰限定irish,irish修饰限定ancestor。

感觉好像就是 因为这个n或者anj不确定范围,所以用adj或者adv来限定它。。。

不知道自己理解对不对,期待nn们的解答~~~

后面两句应该没有什么太大的问题
wrong:James Joyce is Max's SUPPOSEDLY Irish ancestor.
right:James Joyce is Max's SUPPOSED Irish ancestor.
这两句感觉其实两个都是可以的,关键是你要表达什么

这两种结构的极端结构是像这种 more effective machine,到底more修饰谁是很好玩的事情

“more effective machine” more应该是adv修饰effective的吧。。因为如果more修饰machine,machine又是countable,那不就应该是machines吗?
