标题: 求助：关于as 或than引导的比较从句中的省略原则
本人的疑问如标题，在白勇语法全解中，是这么说的：
1. 比较从句谓语与主句谓语相同，可用do, did或does代替。
2.比较从句的主语和谓语的主句和谓语相同时，可以全部省去，常常保留做状语的介词短语或状语从句。

然后今天遇到一道题目：
Employment costs rose 2.8 percent in the 12 months that ended in September, slightly less than they did in the year that ended in the previous quater.
A.less than they did
B.less than it did
C.lower than they were
D.lower than
E.lower than they were
答案是A

这个题目中主句谓语和从句谓语都是“employment costs rose”,我觉得按照白勇的原则，应该省略主语和谓语，保留后面int he year 介词状语，即直接 less than 就对，为什么答案是 less than they did 呢？

省略they did，直接less than，句意改变了，比较对象变成了时间与时间。

比较的基本规则是平行。

than前面是costs rose in xxx，than后面已知是in yyy，很明显要补充剩余成分（they指代costs，再加上助动词did），所以后面是they did in yyy
