标题: Season 2——manhattan 34(已点评)
34. Rust can deteriorate a steel pipe to such an extent that it will snap easily, as though it was a twig.
A will snap easily, as though it was a twig
B will snap easily, like a twig does
C will snap easily, as though it is a twig
D might snap easily, as though it was a twig
E will snap easily, as though it were a twig

选项解析:The original sentence has one major flaw: as though should lead a hypothetical sentence. To make the hypothetical sentence, one must use the verb were, not was.
(For more details, you may refer to Manhattan Chapter7, and see hypothetical subjunctive)

Choice A: was is not the right verb.
Choice B: like cannot be followed by a whole sentence. Replacing as though by like also distorts the meaning of the sentence.
Choice C: To make up the hypothetical subjunctive, we need were ,not is.
Choice D: might is not the right verb. will means that something will or will not happen(也就是会不会的问题), but might means something could or could not happens(能不能的问题). So, basically, these two verbs cannot interchange. Again, was is not the required verb to make up the hypothetical subjunctive.
Choice E: Correct Answer.

题目点评:
本题涉及考点:固定搭配,时态
本题难点在于生单词较多,且都处于关键位置上。所以,在备考过程中还是要抽出适当的时间来补充自己的词汇量的。

对于两个考点,先说时态吧~这道题其实可以秒杀,所以我们需要了解虚拟语气的用法。
碧昂斯有首歌叫If I were a boy. 也就是说,在虚拟语气中,如果是虚拟现在的时候,就把一般现在时的动词,统统变成were。如下面这个场景:
男生:I am a boy, so I am by nature stronger than girls.
女生:But if I were a boy, I will show more respect towards girls.

也就是说,女生在虚拟(或者假设)一个【她是男生】的情形,而这个虚拟是针对当时情况作出的,是针对【一般现在时】的情况作出的虚拟。所以说,当对一般现在时作出虚拟的时候,要将working verb变成were,这个变化适用于任何主语:也就是说无论主语是he, she, they, you等,统统变化成were
E.g.If she were a man, she must be one of the top managers in the world.

而本题中,as though后面引导的是一个虚拟语气。题目的大体意思是说:【rust可以轻易得破坏steel pipeas though it (steel pipe)像一个twig一样】。通过对这层句子意思的把握,我们就可以发现只有E选项用了were,从而秒杀本题。

第二,固定搭配。Such…. That这个句型可以抽空记一下。其实,它和so…that句型用法非常一致,都是用来引导结果状语从句的。
E.g. He is so powerful that everybody fears him.
E.g. He is such a powerful man that everybody fears him.
二者的区别,仅仅体现在so… that句型中,so后面要跟形容词;而such…that句型中,such后面要跟such+ adj. + n.

思路点评:
2楼 clover033 as though比喻,后面使用虚拟过去时。但是不像if引导的虚拟后面固定使用were,而是视主语的单复数用was / were

这个是错的哦~as though就是虚拟语气,虚拟语气后面就是用were的,它和if引导的虚拟语气的用法是一样的。只要是虚拟语气,就遵循相同的用法~

A。
(比喻)虚拟&主谓&情态。
1、情态:might相对于will就不那么的确定,所以第一个排除D。
2、like & as though:like是看起来像,as though带有比喻,B改变了原句意,排除;
3、as though比喻,后面使用虚拟过去时。但是不像if引导的虚拟后面固定使用were,而是视主语的单复数用was / were,故排除C,E。

C will snap easily, as though it is a twig
D might snap easily, as though it was a twig
E will snap easily, as though it were a twig

这题考虚拟语气吧,选E
生锈会让钢管腐烂到这样一个程度:他会很容易断,就像是一个小树枝
B的like后面不该放does
ACD都是was or is,表示过去或现在是这样,语意不对。

啊啊~~~我发现好久没来语法版做题了~
E
as if, as though引导虚拟从句, 与现在时相反be动词用were,实义动词用过去时
我想到的另一点是,虚拟语气条件句不一定要连结虚拟主句才能使用。如prep08 #1-217

选E    were 虚拟。
作者: fox0923    时间: 2011-10-22 22:55
应该选E。
原因主要在于此句话是虚拟语气,后面应该跟as if/though ....were...的形式,因为句子的内容是在阐述与事实相反的内容,所以应该用were的形式。

A will snap easily, as though it was a twig(was错误,不是正确的虚拟语气用法)
B will snap easily, like a twig does(like后面不能接整句话)
C will snap easily, as though it is a twig(it is也不对,等待更完善的if条件从句解释)
D might snap easily, as though it was a twig(might不能作为对将来时的判断,it was错误)
E will snap easily, as though it were a twig

will snap easily, as though it was a twig.
A will snap easily, as though it was a twig
   was错
B will snap easily, like a twig does
   like是类比,不是举例
C will snap easily, as though it is a twig
   对
D might snap easily, as though it was a twig
   was错
E will snap easily, as though it were a twig
   were错

答错了

错因:Hypothetical虚拟语气基本功错
Hypothetical虚拟语气:unlikely or unreal condition
格式:
   1)由if/as if/as though引导
   2)等于verb的一般过去时;但to be只等于were(例如if I were a rich man)

like和as的区别(复习)
like cannot be followed by a whole sentence.

might和will的区别
might is not the right verb. will means that something will or will not happen(也就是会不会的问题), but might means something could or could not happens(能不能的问题). So, basically, these two verbs cannot interchange

Interesting question. Although 'as if it were' is a subjunctive, the first part of the sentence is not a subjunctive, it's a simple prediction. For predictions we usually use 'will'. We would say "Steve is so tired that he will fall asleep soon." not "Steve is so tired that he would fall asleep soon."
