想请教各位not but和not but rather在用法上有没有区别。如OG－172

答案是B没有问题，但如果b没有rather是不是也对呢？

还有1题General Bennett's army could have marched on the enemy's position at once, but instead they wintered in Kingston in order to rest and build up desperately needed supplies.

B but instead it wintered in Kingston in order to rest and build up desperately needed supplies.

答案是B，如果B中的instead改成rather行不行呢？

OG172其实已经说得十分明确：not X, but rather Y;

here rather is optional but preferable because it helps establish a contrast between the two types of energy source. 由此可见，rather最好是保留下来，因为这样能更好的表达对比；例题中的but instead不能改为but rather，应为but rather一般是跟not的，not ... but rather表达对比，而例句则是表达转折。
