Archaeologists in Ireland believe that a recently dicovered chalice, which dates from the eighth century, was probaly burie to keep from being stolen by invaders.

C to avoid

D in order that it would avoid

E in order to keep from

Dear XDJM, I wonder which is the right answer, in OG, B should be choosed, but in the book written by Chan Xiangdong, C is the best.

I wonder which is the better and why?

以OG答案为标准。

keep的逻辑主语是主句动作的发出者，chalice was buried (by human) to keep it from being stolen，bury这个动作的发出者应该是‘人’或动物；而avoid的主语是主句的主语，如前述，主句主语是chalice，那么意思就变成chalice让人把自己bury，为的是chalice要avoid being stolen；it必须补出，以指出动作的对象。
