答案是E，ETS说表达转折意识，想请问C为什么不对呢？如果也加上although，是不是就对了呢？如果本句没有转折意思，C是不是也对呢？

我试试解释一下. 如果选c, 作为分词短语修饰, 就成了United States citizens  are only 5 percent of the world's population, 逻辑意思不对!

being和accounting for不是都表达美国人口占世界人口的5%吗？

只是缺少一个转折意思吗？

嗯，谢谢两位斑竹，看来还是有点受汉语的影响，比如说“美国人占世界人口的5%”或“美国人是世界人口的5％”，好像口语中都可以，所以选C和E犹豫了。

那请问斑竹，是不是表达这种统计数据，都用accout for啊？

sorry，这个倒是没有做过统计，不过在这种情况下用account for就先记住吧。

I think this one is idiomatic.  If you have two cakes in the room, you don't say "The cake on the left has 50% of the cakes in this room."  Instead, you say "The cake on the left accounts for 50% of the cakes in this room."

為什麼我覺得不能選C的原因就只是因為being並不能夠傳達"contrast"的語感呢?也就是說需要有although字眼才能使句子通順.其實OG也只點明這個錯誤原因, 並未提到being有無問題...

不過如果是這樣,那although being only 5% of the world's population,.....算對嗎?

In my opinion, it is the subject that decides whether to use have or account for.

China has the population of 1 bn.

The population of China is 1 bn.

But we cannot say "China citizens have/are the population of 1 bn."

同问，although是一个连词，为什么可以接分词呢，应该接一个句子才对啊，我上来首先排除的就是E。

如果although/even though/while/if/etc的主語和主句的主語一樣, 那從句的主語可以省+接分詞
