I have a relative who is the President of a famous university in China. He knows me very well. Do you think if it is good to ask him to write a letter of recommendation for me? I guess it helps to ask a high-ranked university president to write a recommendation letter. Do you agree?

Do you think if he should say he is my relative in the letter? Is it good to ask a family relative to write a letter? How do you think?

It depends which program you apply. For MBA, it doesn't help you with recommendation from academic side.

I want to apply to MBA class 2005 in the US. I have stayed in the US for five years. My relative was Diplomat of China Government to the US before he becomes the president of the university. BTW, I am not from that university. I want to ask my relative to recommend me concentrating on my social activities and leadership. I have participated some social activities sponsored by China Embassy in the US. Do you think if it would be a good and strong recommendation letter?

Basically, a rec letter from your relative seems weaker from adcom's eyes. Some of schools even suggest not to get rec from your relatives/friends.
