这道是老题了，重新提出来很是汗颜！！！欢迎拍砖
之前也看了一些解释，包括OG和一些前辈的，但是难以释疑解惑，跪请各位大牛不吝赐教！！！
25. Tiger beetles are such fast runners that they can capture virtually any nonflying insect. However, when running toward an
insect, a tiger beetle will intermittently stop and then, a moment later, resume its attack. Perhaps the beetles cannot
maintain their pace and must pause for a moment’s rest; but an alternative hypothesis is that while running, tiger beetles
are unable to adequately process the resulting rapidly changing visual information and so quickly go blind and stop.
Which of the following, if discovered in experiments using artificially moved prey insects, would support one of the two
hypotheses and undermine the other?
(A) When a prey insect is moved directly toward a beetle that has been chasing it, the beetle immediately stops and runs
away without its usual intermittent stopping.
(B) In pursuing a swerving insect, a beetle alters its course while running and its pauses become more frequent as the
chase progresses.
(C) In pursuing a moving insect, a beetle usually responds immediately to changes in the insect’s direction, and it pauses
equally frequently whether the chase is up or down an incline.
(D) If, when a beetle pauses, it has not gained on the insect it is pursuing, the beetle generally ends its pursuit.
(E) The faster a beetle pursues an insect fleeing directly away from it, the more frequently the beetle stops.
题目给了两种假设：1.体能。2.视力。
要求答案能够加强一种、消弱一种。
A 是说prey insect在being chased的过程中破釜沉舟突然回过头来move directly toward the beetle，不论beetle是害怕还是心虚，心想：我靠，这玩意干吗的？莫非GMAT800分，传说中的超牛是也？反正扭头就跑,而且逃的时候也顾不上它歇一会的脾气了,能够without intermittent stop。说明两种假设：体能、视力都没有问题.排除
D 当beetle歇了，它没有追上，就放弃了。至于它为什么歇了，是因为体能还是视力，子非鱼，焉知鱼之乐？排除
E 乍看容易迷惑人。主要是其中directly这个词，可以理解为“立即”；也可以理解为“径直的、笔直的”。如果理解为insect逃命时傻不拉唧的走直线，beetle在后面狂追，那就容易想：反正不转弯、不掉头，盯着prey跑呗。于是，脑中所想、眼中所见全是美餐的身影，不用变换场景，于是也就不存在假设二：视力问题。那要休息就是体能问题了。但是，如果有生物学家告诉你，即使跑直线，周围的图像也是在变化的，beetle同志还得不停的计算和insect同志的距离，更得提防insect同志学习当年撞在树桩上的兔爷，宁死不屈，它别跟着也撞个春光灿烂，因此视力能力也有可能是问题。何况，此处如果directly理解为立即、马上的话，更没有问题了。总之，跑的越快，图像刷新越快，体力消耗也越大，所以休息的就越多。至于到底因为哪一个，还是那句话：子非鱼，焉知鱼之乐？排除
下面是最不能理解的B和C了。
B 可以说加强了假设一，但是没有削弱假设二啊！也就是说此处我们不能排除beetle在追的过程中，跑不动了，歇了。而且OG给的解释：”Th is statement provides information that strengthens the second hypothesis: the swerving pursuit
and the resulting continual course adjustments appear to be forcing the beetle to stop with increasing
frequency to sort out the erratic visual information.“也很清楚，就是加强假设一，没有二什么事，排除。
C 此处使用了moving而没有像B中用swerving那么明晰，但后面紧接着就说了，usually responds immediately to changes in the insect’s direction，说明此处insect也东躲西藏，注意了，此处紧跟着一个逗号，然后说and it pauses
equally frequently whether the chase is up or down an incline。不知大家注意没有，在B选项中，and连接的两个分句没有逗号分离，因此在这里我的理解是：”beetle歇息的频率是相等的“是在说”无论上坡、下坡“这种情况，也就是说体力没有问题。否则上坡累、下坡轻松，应该有所区别。那么在题目中已经给出的客观存在：intermittently stop and then, a moment later, resume its attack就只能是视力问题了。当然更加客观的看法是这个选项只能说消弱了假设二，跟一没什么关系。排除
天哪！！！都被我干掉了！！！选谁啊？
在网上看到有人说，C选项中respond immediately就否认了假设二，不敢苟同！因为后边不是说了，人家过一会还歇会呢。如果非要这么说，那我还说B选项中alters its course while running也否认了假设二呢。
至于另外一种解释：因为beetle要跟着insect东转、西转，所以大脑需要处理的图像就多了，所以休息频率就应该高。因为选项C中休息频率不变，所以在否定假设二的同时，顺便也否定了假设一。我还是不能认同。因为在运动过程中需要处理的图像与单位时间移动的距离相关。你转，或者不转，它就在那里，不离不弃。否则E选项不就成正确答案了吗－－不转方向，不增加大脑处理图像的工作量，于是，休息次数多了，就是累了，就是体能问题。
抓狂啊！！！折磨我一个下午了！！！
跪求那位高人指点迷津，也许在您那儿是口水，流出来丢人，赶紧擦去，生怕别人看见，但说不定在我等芸芸众生眼中就是醍醐啊，灌顶吧！！！

我也倾向于C选项，可是万恶的OG给的答案是B啊！！！
另外帖子中，关于B、C选项的描述中，把假设一、假设二说反了，丢人！！！（也从侧面反应了我已被该题折磨的无限接近崩溃）

C选项, responds immediately to changes in the insect’s direction 削弱2. pauses equally frequently在削弱1. (调整pace的话不会equally frequently)

B是对的.

LS说反了吧，B选项是在加强2削弱1.
因为alter course while running说明不需要休息否定了第一个原因，
pauses become more frequent as the chase progresses, 由于chase越来越激烈，那个insect swerve跑的越来越快，会导致tiger beetles 不能处理图像信息，所以停下来重新对焦的次数更多。

我个人理解B是这样的。

C的话参考OG，给的条件不能说明到底是哪个原因引起的。respond immediately的话不知道beetles是怎么repsond的，它可以停下来也可以继续飞。然后pause equally frequent，无论insect飞上飞下的原因也是不清楚的。之前的两个都可以作为原因。所以C不如B好吧。。。。。。。。

追猎物时，beetle根据猎物的位置变化马上转变（否定视力论），并且无论猎物上坡还是下坡都以一样的频率休息（否定体力论，假若支持累要休息，上坡休息应该更频繁）。此选项2个原因都否定了

B, 随着chase的进程，beetle停下来次数愈频繁，说明是累了，肯定了第一个，否定了第二个，如果不累，停的频率不会随chase的进程而变化。对比一下C，可以看出，停的频率不变，不知道是影响的哪个。而E是对两个的肯定，速度快，累的快，当然，速度快，对焦也难。就像射击一样，飞碟飞的越快，越难打中。A和D就不用说了。关键是从影响体力和精准度的因素。这题题型不错，很锻炼思维。

我的理解

B中用的词是swerving，迂回飞行的insect，而C中用的是moving，在移动的insect。
我觉得，如果是累的话，应该pause的频率相同；
而如果是视力问题的话，这个insect飞行方向变化有关，变化越多，则越需要Pause,B中迂回飞行的昆虫方向不断变化，pause频率也快，因而肯定了视力问题，否定了精力问题。

我的理解

牛牛，你这swerving和moving的比较一语点醒了我啊，我做prep上的一道和这个类似的变体题还有OG诊断上的这个题都百思不得其解，搜的答案也说服不了自己，你这句话太精典了。一语点醒梦中人啊！！！！

我覺得這道題目多讀幾遍BC選項就會發覺其中隱含的不同了

B用的是swerving, C用的是moving
B用的是alters its course while running, C用的是responds immediately

可見B想表達的是體能沒問題，視力有問題
C表達的是體能沒問題（通過後半句看出來）視力沒問題
