我觉得只有前面的modifier是mission critical modifier的时候才可以跳跃,这里 “within the Democratic Party during his first term” 的确是修饰post 担不是mission critical. 而且 如果which可以跳跃修饰的话那前面不能有逗号。有了逗号就说明是 non-essential modifier。
不知道这么说LZ能理解吗?

mission critical modifier 这个词是我从ManhattanGMAT 中看到。 来举个书中的例子吧
He had a way OF DODGING OPPONENTS that impressed the scouts. 这里 of dodging opponents 是修饰way。。但是如果拿掉的话就不能清楚的表达是那种way impressed the scouts. 所以这里的that是跳跃修饰 a way 而不是 opponents.
如果which前面有逗号的话就说明这个modifier 是 non-essential modifier,就是整个modifier拿掉这个句子还是成立。 比如说
Our system of Presidential elections favors states, such as Delaware, that by population are over-represented in the Electoral College.
这里such as Delaware就是non-essential modifier, 拿掉的话不影响句子。 注意such as Delaware前后都有逗号。
