OG对第一题的说法是划线部分是个modifier，功能上等同于形容词，用于修饰后面的scholars，does not make any sense，改为using开头的modifier就对了。我的困惑：为啥划线部分不能理解为状语，修饰painted呢？
类似关于based on的第二题，正确选项用的based on，可以理解为状语、并修饰developed吗？还是分词短语修饰society的？

感觉模模糊糊的，期待高人们更清楚的解释~~ 多谢了！

非高人，试着说一说。

第一题：如果照LZ说的划线部分理解为状语修饰painted，也应该是basing on，因为是人scholars画，是人base on，动作发起者，主动。

第二题：based on理解为分词修饰society，这个society被建立在……（society是无法作为动作发起者自己建立的。）

个人做这样的题目时候没像LZ考虑是做定语还是状语，修饰什么成分。大多是根据分词短语与其修饰的中心词之间是主动还是被动关系，主动则ving，被动则-ed。

LZ给了个很好的提醒，要分析成分作用。

补充OG对第二题的解释：虽然OG对各个选项的解释主要针对并列，但我发现它对题目总的解释中说到，The sentence describes the elaborate society of the Mochica with a series of three features...

这么说，based on 真的是修饰society的。。。悲催啊，我怎么老觉得based on是作状语的？为什么会这样？

呵呵，没想到你回得这么快，嗯，言之有理。再弱弱的问，如果是分词修饰society，为啥前面要加个逗号涅？同位语又不像同位语。。。

发现语法题做得有点crazy啊，一个问题不明白犹如鱼刺梗在喉咙，极其不舒服。理智上告诉自己不要钻牛角尖了，可是欲罢不能啊。。。
牛牛们发发慈悲救救我吧，这个based on的成分和用法究竟如何解？

OG 25的解释里提到 the underlined phrase is a modifier; it functions as an adjective to describe the noun that immediately follows it.

这样看，OG 28里的based on....即使改成basing on也不对（因为位置应该放在所修饰的名词即 the Mochica 前面？）

另外， based on ...应该是非限定性修饰，即去掉based on... 这个部分，也不影响句子大意， based on...只做补充说明用。

.......+N,Ved....... 这类结构，过去分词修饰逗号前的名词，与名词成被动关系

我的想法也差不多，做题的时候一般认为
人做什么事情的时候，是basing on
什么事情被做了的时候，是based on
