Choice A is faulty because an adverb such as twice cannot function as an object of the preposition by(用词). B增长了超过两次 distorts the sentence's meaning, stating that the number of engineering degrees conferred increased on more than two distinct occasions.（歧义） D's passive verb was ... doubled suggests without warrant that some unnamed agent increased the number of engineering degrees. (语态)The past perfect tense in E, had... doubled, is inappropriate unless the increase in engineering degrees is specifically特定的，明确的 being viewed as having occurred further back in the past than some subsequent event. Choice C is best.（过去完成时应该用在某事件在过去比另外一个事件发生的更早，这种时候才恰当）

twice ad.两次；两倍。建议你使用金山词霸（网上有下的）的美国传统字典或朗文字典（CD下载区有）作为单词的查找字典。

当要表达明确的两倍而又要用twice等词时一般用twice the number这类结构，否则，twice的两个含义不能明确区分。

C表达的被动缺乏明确的或从逻辑上可以判断的施动者，所以被动错，而且，从逻辑上，这个动作也不应该是被动的。

B的TWO TIMES 不選.因為那是兒童英文

D的DOUBLE是一不及物V.所以沒有被動

E是由於有FROM....TO.....所以用PAST TENSE即可

我当时对这道题的理解是这样的：要表达两倍用the number+ double 或 twice + the number，跟stoneren说得一样都对。

且我个人认为选项A increased by more than twice 和选项B表达的意思并不是两倍多，而是三倍多吧，因为是增加了两倍多，若要说三倍多就直接用the number + triple，而说成黄色highlight或B选项那样，是不是就很redundant了，所以A就错了两处。请NN确认我的看法是不是正确。

这个题目怎末会是c答案呢？？把c选项带进去整个句子根本就没有谓语啊！！！难道是打印错误？？还是偶有钻到死牛角尖了

另外，d答案，doubled 能不能看作是形容词啊？这样就构成了be+adj.结构，我觉得这样理解不错啊，我选的是d.

C的谓语是double，double可以作动词也可以作形容词；

double本身就可以是形容词，D中doubled不能作形容词而只能作动词，D中表被动，错

谢谢，刚才查字典才知道，doubled是动词，谢谢stoneren的提醒，d 我明白了！

但是c答案，我还是不清楚，more than 可以修饰动词吗？？感觉怪怪的。不知道在哪里能查到相关的语法点？

more than连在一起可以作为一个副词，当然可以修饰动词，注意，这里的more than不是分开的，是连在一起的。

无论如何我觉得ETS这道题考的挺损，虽然语法上好象说的过去，但这表达还是让我觉得awkard, 如果在C前面加Has变成has more than doubled就更圆满了。

btw,我用google搜索网页，发现整句里都是has/have more than doubled的表达方式，而新闻标题才简练写成noun + more than doubled.如哪位在英文媒体中见过本题中more than doubled单独做谓语的用法麻烦贴上来参考，谢谢！

怎么还是怪怪的？怎么看都应该把twice the number中的the number省略啊？

还有OG说“because an adverb such as twice cannot function as the object of a prep by”，这里应该是强调了副词不能作介词的宾语吧。但张道真书里有介词+副词的用法。还是说by后面不能加副词？

你看的介词+副词是不是动词+副词+介词的用法如:do well in,get on with,go on with等?
