我不明白OG上的一些解释：
1. B选项中what 为什么不能代替that ?
2. 为什么用rather to come 就是 dose not complete the second part of the sentence idiomatically?
3.OG说E中的 with it instead coming "ungrammatical"的原因it 指代不明嘛？

首先what错是因为加了逗号，what是不能引导非限定性定语从句的。
另外与其不如应该是rather... than结构，如果单独使用是宁愿的意思，e.g. I'll never be dependent on anyone again. I'd rather starve.
with it instead coming这句话就是读不通嘛，哪有with后面还instead的……

谢谢你的关于前两个问题的解释。
第三个问题with后面不能加instead，这种说法提醒了我想到BY上说的：介词后面只能够直接跟名词或者动词ING形式。
所以 with it 直接接代词本身就错了，我认为这样理解更好。

我的理解是主语the gains 谓语 reflect 宾语 growing confidence
to ……rather to 表目的中间加了一个what 引导的插入语
语法可能不对的地方，但是结构还是完整的呀~

查了，不行诶。根本没有rather to 连用表目的的用法。
所以B的结构是有问题的。

D里为什么不能有that啊？recession在从句中做fear的宾语，that可以省啊

第三个问题里面的it是单数，所以既有可能指代的是前面的the economy，还可能是the recession，所以指代不清

E项it前还有个with不要忽略了。with引导的独立主格逻辑主语不一定和主句主语一致，所以指哪个都有可能。

我的看法是，这里的to 不能表示目的，整个的句子意思就改变了。最好的意思是后面的从句是解释confidence的内容，而如果用to 来表示目的的话，confidence就是完全多余的了

我逐项解释：
1，应该是用which来指代才对
2，两个逗号之间是插入语，拿掉后再来看，句子就是 avoid the recession rather to come...绝对是错误的
3，it指代不明是应该它前面有多个单数名词。有可能知道economy也有可能是recession. 所以歧义。

what在句中是要充当成分的，所以不完整；
rather do是比较，前面的谓语动词呢？谁和come比较，所以错；
最后是过去分词结尾，两种情况，1 与句子逻辑主语一致，考主谓一致，句子主语是the gains；2 作结果状语。

个人观点，仅供参考。

我的问题是in the economy to avoid the recession, what（that) many feared earlier in the year, rather to come
OG的解释说that可以replace what 。就是说原来位置的what换成that呗可是 that又不能引导非限制性定语从句而且that后引导的从句逻辑意思上来说也不能做confidence的同位语就很困惑换成that干什么用呢
我有可能钻og解释的牛角尖了

我觉得应该是定语从句，而不是同位语
