标题: 求教关于08PREP语法的2. whether or not的使用，何为引导状从时必须加or not?
2. whether or not的使用：(见the handbook of good english)
1) 在引导宾从的时候只能够用whether，而不能加or not，否则累赘
2) 在引导状从的时候必须加上or not，即whether or not.
3. whether表示列举时候的用法：Whether A, B, or C.

引导宾从是：
...not only investigate whether or not research is an independent function at brokerage firms, but also if conflicts result when analysts own the stocks they write about or are...
这里的or not 是多余的，那何时or not是必须的呢？？？

应该没有or not 必须的情况，最少在GMAT考查范围内没有，做过几千题了吧，没碰到过

可是怎么样才算是说在状语从句中不可以省略呢？好像没有见过一定要有whether or not 的句子。。。不知道怎么样才算是引导状从

Whether she is shemale or not, I definitely do not fancy her...whether状语从句···但从来没有SC单独考这个or not 添加的哇，印象中没有··安啦，像白勇语法全解里面虚拟语气语法说了那么多，考题中反映出来也就那几点（should加动词原形），没有必要太纠结奥。

BTW...我的那个例句可能有点BT，谅解...而且我也不知道那个具体算什么状语从句，因为whether本身只包含是否的意思，所以不为条件状语从句的。。

我也觉得这句子不是状语从句，倒像是补语从句...BTW有补语从句这种说法吗？...

话说真的好难啊。。。其实即使知道这么回事。。。万一考了我估计也很难分出是修饰VERB还是做宾语。。。
另外还有个问题就是，or not必须跟着whether吗？还是也可以说They will play tomorrow whether it rains or not?（根据兄台给出的网址的例句的改写。。。）

whether和whether or not意思不一样。whether or not更多的表示肯定，不管xx与否，等同于regardless of whether.
whether更多的表示疑问，对接下来的主题有疑问。
例句：
1. whether or not they are professional writers, many people are confused about whether they should use that phrase.
不管是否是专业作家，都很迷惑，whether or not表示肯定。
第二个whether表示疑问，是否应该用这个短语。

2. they will play tomorrow whether or not it rains. (they will play tomorrow whether it rains or not)
表肯定。

whether...or引导什么状语从句

答：“whether... or...”可以引导包含选择范围的让步状语从句，意为“不管……”。例如：
I shall go, whether you come with me or stay at home. 不论你来还是留在家中，我都要去。
Whether she wins or loses, this is her last chance. 不管是赢是输，这都是她的最后一次机会。
Whether we like a particular piece of news or not, all we have to do is to sit in front of the tube and let it happen. 不管我们喜欢不喜欢某条新闻，我们所能做的只是坐在电视机前任其播放
